The Florida Institute of Technology (Florida TECH or FIT) is a private research university with engineering and aeronautics as its main fields of study. Florida TECH offers more than 200 US higher education programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, as well as certification and advanced studying courses.

The history of Florida TECH began in 1958, when its founder, Jerome P. Kuiper, received the first donation to implement his idea to build a scientific and technical college. At first, future testers of the US space programs studied there, but the educational institution developed and grew rapidly, having received the necessary accreditations, university status and international recognition over several decades.

Today, the Florida Institute of Technology prepares about 10,000 future technical specialists on its Melbourne campus. Among them are representatives from various countries who unite into a multinational student community and actively support each other in academic achievements and extracurricular development.

What advice would you give to students aiming for top U.S. universities, with 3-4 years to prepare?

This period is perfect for assessing capabilities and exploring options of universities. Focus on achieving high grades and improving English proficiency. Strong English skills enhance your learning experience, and good grades can lead to scholarships or honors college admissions.

Florida TECH is home to several science colleges that include more subject-specific departments. Training takes place in the following specialties:

The university has research centers that conduct research in many areas: from computational thermodynamics, biomechanics to behavior and animal cognition. Florida TECH faculty conduct research to improve the quality of life of the international community, focusing on finding solutions to global problems: for example, for more than 30 years, they have been studying the Indiana River Lagoon to improve and maintain the health of a unique estuary.

The university has a Florida TECH ROTC department, where students who want to become officers of the US Army, the US National Guard undergo military training and specialized education.

Florida TECH owns nine residences, in which freshmen and students of subsequent years, masters, live separately.

First-year students have access to:

• Res Quad, Campbell, Shaw, Wood and Grissom halls are traditional style residences offering a shared layout with double rooms, shared bathrooms,
• Columbia Village is a four-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment on the edge of the Botanical Gardens. Each building is home to 48 students, with four students per apartment. All residents have access to a training area, vending machines, mailboxes, and support offices. The two-story parking garage is conveniently located within walking distance of Columbia Village,
• Mary Star of the Sea, Newman Hall is a residence for believers, which provides apartment housing for 146 students: two- and four-room apartments with separate bedrooms, shared bathrooms,
• Roberts Hall is a seven-storey building in a traditional style, which has prepared double rooms with full furnishings, including small refrigerators and microwaves. Bathrooms are on each floor (shared),
• Brownlie Hall is a small residential building offering double rooms, each with its own bathroom.

Undergraduates mostly live in apartments and shared apartments in the following buildings:

• Evans Hall is located in the eastern part of the neighborhood known as the Res Quad and is accessible to high school students. It offers double rooms in a traditional style with a choice of a private bathroom,
• The three five-story buildings of L3Harris Village accommodate 382 students from the second to senior years in apartment-type apartments. One-, two- and four-room suites are available with kitchens, separate bedrooms, bathrooms,
• Mary Star of the Sea, Newman Hall is a residential building for believing students, providing accommodation in two- and four-bed apartments with a full range of amenities,
• Panther Bay Apartments is a complex located three miles from the learning grounds and offers five-bedroom apartments with separate bedrooms, bathrooms,
• Southgate Apartments is a residential complex located across the street from the main part of the campus. It offers a variety of accommodation options for high school students, including studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. The community is equipped with many sports and recreational areas, including a basketball court, a volleyball court and a new patio.

Students can choose from several meal plans that best suit their lifestyle. The meal plan includes a certain number of meals per semester, additional dollars for purchases at stores and cafeterias on campus. The menu of food outlets is varied, including vegan, vegetarian dishes. The Panther Dining Room offers a menu that includes allergen-free recipes.

Florida TECH has an eco-friendly, high-quality nutrition program that reduces waste by 200,000 containers per year. The university follows a recycling program that includes the reuse of cardboard, oil. Chefs partner with suppliers at the national and local level, supporting farmers and small businesses.

The student community takes an active part in the life of the university, which supports many ideas, interests and hobbies of students. Florida TECH is a member of the NCAA Division II, which features 15 men's and women's teams. The main competitive sports at the university are:

The Florida TECH studying area covers 130 acres, located on the Florida Space Coast in Melbourne. The city center and the international airport are about 2 miles away, the beaches are 6 miles away, and NASA's Kennedy Space Center is 45 miles away.

The botanical garden occupies 15 acres of the university's territory, where more than 200 palm trees, bamboos and other rare plants grow. The campus infrastructure includes dozens of buildings and hundreds of specialized facilities prepared for theoretical and practical studying. Classes are conducted in small classrooms and common classrooms, science labs and computer rooms, workshops and studios. Public areas, several large dining halls, and sports facilities have been prepared for recreation on campus.

The center of the sports infrastructure is a modern 58,000 square foot complex, which includes:

Florida TECH operates almost all year round -studying is conducted in three semesters:

• Autumn: August-December,

The academic year of most programs includes only two semesters, but there are degrees that require you to study during the summer. Classes are held on weekdays, and on weekends, holidays and vacations, students rest.

Applicants need to fill out an online registration form, submit documents, and pay fees. Candidates will be invited for an interview, entrance exams and will be provided with all the necessary information about arriving at the campus and starting their studies.

According to annual statistics, about 90% of graduates continue their academic path or are employed almost immediately after completing their studies. To date, the number of Florida TECH graduates exceeds more than 70,000 specialists from more than 120 countries: among them are famous shuttle astronauts, the first female general with four stars, Olympic champions.

Programs at different educational levels have diverse admission criteria, but the requirement for foreign applicants to have a passport, medical insurance, visa or residence permit will be common.

To apply for a bachelor's degree, you must provide:

• Official transcripts of secondary education for the last three academic years, certificate,
• Letters of recommendation from teachers and mentors,
• Language exam results: TOEFL (from 80), IELTS (from 6.5), Duolingo (from 105) or equivalent.

Future masters and doctoral students additionally need to have diplomas from previous levels of education, pass a language exam and provide proof of professional and research activities.

The university cooperates with the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, which annually selects two high-achieving students and awards them a large scholarship. Other financial programs also encourage academically successful students by helping to cover up to 50% of the cost of education, in rare cases in full.

Students will be able to request financial support if they are in a difficult life situation and cannot pay for their tuition on their own.
