The British private school Claremont Independent School is a non-selective and yet academically highly ambitious school. We aim to send our students not just to the best universities in the UK and elsewhere but, most importantly, to the most appropriate destination for their chosen career path.
Set in this safe, beautiful and historically important part of south-east England, this is a forward-looking school that is very much an English school but with a vibrant international flavour. At the Senior School (age 13+) the split is 30% international and 70% British.
One of the school’s many strengths is its outstanding Football Academies, which features Junior programmes and Senior programmes for boys and for girls. All Academy students attend regular academic classes alongside all other students but then attend training while the others do their own sports and co-curricular activities. The programme is highly selective and runs throughout the school year, but always with the main priority being academic progress.
Today, the Academy is run by Jim Colson: he worked with players in the clubs Arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton, Crystal Palace, European football teams.
Each student is determined by individual characteristics, strengths and weaknesses, from which a unique plan of classes is created. International and national tournaments, friendly games and matches are constantly held, and the main gameplay is at the level of the Premier League. The children are constantly cooperating with professional coaches: they closely follow the successes and achievements of each student, help him to move to the next level, reveal the secrets of a successful career.
The school is also very strong in the performing arts and in 2019 has opened a new teaching block including a fantastic art studio, as well as a new performing arts centre, which includes a huge dance centre, where we offer GCSE qualifications in contemporary dance.

Claremont students live in our two boarding houses, one for the senior boys and one for the girls and some of the junior boys. The boarding houses are town-based, giving students the benefits of going ‘home’ at the end of the day and at the weekend, which has proven to be very popular. As we do with the majority of the local day students, we pick the boarders up in our buses and transport them the 20-minute drive to the school campus, and then back again in the evening.
The houses are well-established but have been renovated to a high standard. The majority of rooms are twins and overall about 75% have en-suite facilities. Our superb boarding staff provide a safe and supportive environment in which the students can thrive and really enjoy their time in the UK.
According to the academic results of 2019:
