Claremont Graduate University (CGU)

Claremont Graduate University (abbreviated as CGU) is a non-profit private educational institution in America that has been active in scientific and academic work since the beginning of the 1925. The main university building is now located in the small town of Claremont.

Over the past several years, the university has consistently replenished list of the best of the best in international academic rankings.

Education at CGU is built on a practice-oriented approach and individual mentorship: globally recognized researcher-educators lead specialized programs that can be tailored to the specific interests and career goals of each student. The small scale of the university allows for an individual approach to every student.

International students have access to the International Scholars Program (ISP) — preparatory courses designed to develop the academic reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills necessary for successful study. For those who do not meet the scores required for direct admission, the ISP Pathways program offers a route to full enrollment. A career and professional development office is available, along with workshops, conversation groups, and individual consultations.

The residence is located next to the campus or a few minutes away from it — in the very heart of the Claremont Village district. Living in close proximity to the academic buildings allows students to easily get to classes and take advantage of all the district's infrastructure.

This is a small-scale higher education institution, where every year a maximum of 3,000 people successfully complete a course of study. Each year, admission of students is conducted  by a special admission committee.

The academic year is organized according to the classic American model and consists of fall and spring semesters, with an additional summer semester.

Application deadlines for international applicants depend on the semester of enrollment:

• for the spring semester — priority deadline November 1, final deadline November 15,
• for the summer semester — February 1 and March 1,
• for the fall semester — February 1 and July 5.

To confirm enrollment intent, a non-refundable seat deposit is required, which is then applied toward the first semester's tuition payment. In addition to tuition, separate mandatory fees are charged: a student fee, a technology fee, and an international student services fee.

Over more than 90 years, the university has graduated more than 23,000 specialists.

A number of programs have STEM status, which gives foreign graduates the right to a practical training permit in the USA for up to 36 months after graduation. Location in California — the fifth largest economy in the world — opens up broad opportunities for professional connections and employment.

As with most American universities, the academic year consists of two classic semesters. Despite the fact that the institution of higher education is considered a private institution, students always apply for financial support in the form of scholarships, subject to good academic performance.

Financial support is one of the university's strengths. CGU distributes more than 16 million dollars annually in scholarships, which are received by over 85% of students. The average support amount is approximately 12,000 dollars per year. Scholarships do not need to be repaid — they are applied directly toward tuition costs.
