Israel's largest educational and research center includes 5 faculties and 51 divisions. The scientific base of the university plays an important role in the development of agriculture, industry and education in the country.
The university was founded in 1969 in the southern city of Beersheba with the support of Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. The university was opened to study the issues of desalination of the desert, which makes up 60% of Israel's territory.
The faculties of Computer Science and Informatics, the School of Engineering and the Department of Natural Sciences are internationally renowned.
