The Institute was founded in 1960 in the city of Arzamas.

The learning process includes a course of lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory classes, educational and pre-diploma practice.

The educational process is organized in the following departments:

• Analysis of ways to ensure the tightness of automobile brake hoses,
• Investigation of ways to install the top of the cutting edge of the cutter in the center,
• Investigation of the process of chrome plating of fluoride-free parts with the addition of HEEF-25 MS,
• Modernization of the plant for electrochemical etching of parts and workpieces,
• Increasing the wear resistance of parts and mechanisms of equipment operated in conditions of increased wear, on the example of the working bodies of agricultural machinery,
• Modernization of the product "multi-temporal control unit" in order to ensure operation in changed operating conditions,
• Analysis of the architecture of building air conditioning systems of modern aircraft,
• Justification of the choice of the functional structure for the construction of a digital compensation accelerometer,
• Development of software for an automated workplace for the control of laser gyroscope mirrors with laser illumination,
• Investigation of the effectiveness of the method for reducing the temperature drift of the zero signal of a microelectromechanical angular velocity sensor,
• Advantages of using e-learning tools on the example of the mini-manual "Classification of software by right of use".

The Institute ranks second in the ranking of universities in Arzamas and Arzamas region.

For nonresident full-time students, the university provides a dormitory designed for 214 places.

For meals for students and staff, the university has a buffet and a dining room for 40 seats in total.

The education process is organized in a single educational building, equipped with classrooms for lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory classes. The classrooms are equipped with the necessary modern equipment: projectors, screens and computers.

Students are given free access to the library with a reading room.

For sports, the institute provides a gym and a ski base.

At IPA NSTU, the academic year is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. At the end of each of them, an examination session is held, after passing the students, they are given vacations (in winter in January, in summer in July and August).
