Description of University of Aizu
University of Aizu (abbreviated as UoA ) or 会 津 大学 - This is a higher education institution of the state type, which has been active in scientific and academic work since the beginning of the distant 1993 in Japan. Now UoA University is conveniently located with its well-equipped campus in Fukushima.
This University of Japan is classified as small in size, because there are about 2,000 students annually in this course. Education is built around computer science and engineering. Undergraduate studies are conducted at the School of Computer Science and Engineering. Graduate education is represented by the Research School of Computer Science and Engineering: a master's program (120 seats) with two specializations — «Computer and Information Systems» and «Information Technology and Project Management», as well as a doctoral program.
Scientific achievements
University teams annually advance to the Asian regional stage of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC); in 2008 and 2015 they placed 2nd among Japanese universities (after the University of Tokyo) and advanced to the world finals, and in 2016 they reached the finals for the second consecutive year.
Things to know about
The University of Aizu is Japan's first specialized university in the field of computer science and engineering. Since 2003, it has hosted the all-Japan programming competition for schoolchildren, PC Koshien. The automated program evaluation system Aizu Online Judge, developed at the university (since 2004, publicly available since 2009), has more than 100,000 registered users worldwide.
