Description of Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO)
UniversitédeBretagneOccidentale is a French state university operating since 1971. The main institute building is located in France, in Brest. The restaurant is regularly included in the TOP-60 best in its country and even has an impeccable reputation in the world.
As of January 2025, the university had 1,411 teaching and research staff and 1,099 support staff.
An international student admitted through an exchange program receives an enrollment procedure letter from the International Relations Office (DAI), including the university calendar and the documents needed to move into student housing.
Educational process
International students can put together an individual course of study in almost any faculty at the university by choosing from courses already taught in English, reaching a full load of 30 ECTS credits.
International students can complete an internship in one of the university's laboratories, supervised in English.
Courses in the English-Friendly category are delivered orally in French, but written materials are provided in French and/or English, along with a detailed summary and reading list in English.

The university's campuses host six university restaurants: Armen, Centre (Segalen), Kergoat, the associative restaurant Kernévent in Plouzané, Ker Ys at the IUT, and PJH in Quimper. Most of them are open mainly from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
The Yves-Le Gallo Library of the Centre for Breton and Celtic Studies (CRBC) holds a specialized collection of 70,000 books, including 6,800 titles in Breton across various dialect forms, 2,400 journal titles (300 active subscriptions), 16,000 audio recordings, photographs and maps, as well as 500 dissertations, 2,500 master's theses, and the archives of Pierre-Jakez Hélias, Anatole Le Braz, Naig Rozmor, and Loeiz Herrieu.
The European Institute for Marine Studies (IUEM) is a joint unit of the university, the CNRS, and the IRD, and holds a leading position in French and European marine science, with its research covering more than half of the country's capacity in this field.

The Le Square facility was funded through the student life contribution (CVEC) and the National Sports Agency.
Over the summer, the university's libraries close for renovation and holiday breaks. Closing dates vary by branch.
Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol
Applicants must pass specialized exams, and their results determine the further possibility of admission and training. Educational services are relatively inexpensive. Bachelors and masters pay about $ 1,000 a year, but the exact price depends on the specialty.
