Paradise Island is what juicy shots on social networks promise us, which are published by acquaintances, and in general everyone who has reached Bali. Here you are, inspired, already running to buy tickets, packing your bags and fantasizing about an unforgettable vacation on the shores of the azure ocean waves. Your trip can indeed be unforgettable, but not necessarily in a positive way. We warn you about six Indonesian features that can alienate and even hate the island of dreams.
The high cost in establishments and everywhere in general, and the quality of services leaves much to be desired
A few years ago, Bali did have low prices for rent and food in establishments, but today the reality is different: prices are rising, and the quality of food and services remains at the same level. Because of this, many people are disappointed in Bali, because people make a logical connection between high prices and high quality standards, and at the end they get something completely different from what they expected.
It is not so easy to find comfortable and safe accommodation even for a high price, because tourists from all over the world have literally occupied the magical island and do not think of leaving.
Too many tourists and locals
Although the latter, perhaps, are here in normal numbers, but those who have "arrived" are only increasing every day. The growth of tourists also provokes the housing problem, which we have already mentioned, reducing the opportunities for comfortable walks to local attractions. Do you want to see an ancient temple? Wait in line for almost an hour!
The excess of people on the island also affects the traffic. You will no longer be able to freely ride a bike through the picturesque streets. Traffic jams, by the way, also appeared here.
Long distances between the tourist residential area and attractions
If you think that you can take a leisurely walk to every popular location on the island, then you are mistaken: some of them, even by transport, take about an hour and a half, and all three or more to the famous volcanoes and waterfalls.
Atmosphere for the sake of tourists
Not everyone will attribute this point to the negative aspects of the island, but still many travelers note that they lacked the authentic atmosphere in Bali. All local owners of hotels, shops and establishments are trying too hard to please foreigners, decorate everything in English, fill the menu with dishes from European culture. In general, it is unlikely that you will be able to feel the Indonesian culture in Bali today.
Balinese beaches are not so ideal
Especially if you are not an active wave conqueror, but a classic lover of sunbathing and leisurely swimming. The cleanliness and beauty of the beaches in Indonesia depends on the season of the year, but even this does not guarantee how you will eventually find your azure dream. Wilder and untouched beaches continue to maintain their cleanliness, but it is not so easy to get to them.
Intestinal infection is (not) a traveler's friend
Unofficial statistics say that almost every second foreign tourist has faced poisoning on the island. It can be picked up in different ways: from local dishes, from running water. Therefore, you will not be able to treat your health carelessly, it is important to be on the alert all the time. Experienced tourists recommend using only bottled water while brushing your teeth, not asking to add ice to the drink in the establishment, giving up the momentary desire to buy something in eateries in a dubious area - then you will have a better chance of not meeting your face and intestines with the already world-famous Bali Belli infection.
