Summer English Courses

  • Age — from 10 to 17 years old,
  • Duration of study — two or three weeks.

The English language learning program is offered in several formats: Classic and Essential, which differ from each other in the number of excursions. Both formats include:

  • 15 hours of language classes per week, focused on improving reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, expanding vocabulary,
  • Four half-day excursions to York, one trip to Liverpool with a visit to the Liverpool Museum, another — to Manchester.

If you choose a 21-day program, two additional half-day excursions to York are added to the students' leisure plan, including independent visits with entrance tickets to Clifford's Tower, a full-day excursion to Manchester with entrance tickets to the Museum of Science and Industry.

The Essential format provides more days dedicated to traveling around the region: in addition to existing trips, there are three days of free planning, during which students explore attractions, museums and exhibition halls of York, Liverpool and Manchester in groups.

The language program includes accommodation in a university residence, three meals a day and a wide range of leisure activities on campus.

Summer English Premium Course + Weekend

This program includes 15 hours of English language study per week and many cultural and entertainment activities:

  • Accommodation in a hotel in London for two days,
  • Two full-day excursions around London with visits to the London Eye, a boat trip on the Thames,
  • Four half-day excursions to York with visits to York Minster, York’s Chocolate Factory,
  • A full-day excursion to Manchester with a tour of the exhibits at the National Football Museum.

Students who choose the 21-day course will visit additional excursions in Liverpool (with a tour of the Liverpool Museum), and two half-day trips to York. All excursions include a walking tour and are accompanied by staff, with the exception of independent travel as part of the three-week program, which allows groups to explore the surroundings independently.

Summer English + Special Courses

In addition to the main English language learning program, which lasts for 2-3 weeks, students can add specialized lessons in the "Touristic Education" course. These classes are held in classrooms with interactive audio and video equipment, in open areas of the campus and in the city: during the training process, teachers will teach pupils map reading and determining their location, describing the surrounding world in English, and tell a lot about the history, culture and traditions of Great Britain.

Summer Centre York — a summer centre located in the central part of York offering English language courses for students aged 10-17.

The curriculum is tailored to any level of English proficiency, allowing both beginners and those looking to improve their existing skills. Training takes place on the campus of York St John University, which ranks nationally and internationally as one of the leading universities in the UK: its educational grounds provide students with the best conditions for realizing their potential, comfortable and safe leisure time. Students are accommodated in St John Central residence, located a 15-minute walk from the academic buildings. They occupy single rooms with en-suite bathrooms and share common areas: lounges, small kitchens for preparing snacks and drinks, and laundry facilities. Students visit the dining hall every day, where they are offered balanced three meals a day of national and international cuisine.

If a student adds a course with a stay in London to the main program, accommodation is arranged in a hotel, in single, double or triple rooms with private bathrooms. The cost includes all meals — daily breakfast, lunch and dinner, organized in local restaurants or the hotel dining hall.

Summer programs are organized on the educational grounds of York St John University, located in the very center of York. The proximity of the campus to urban attractions expands the educational experience of students: museums, historical buildings, and galleries will allow them to learn more about the history, culture, and customs of England.

The infrastructure of the university campus — is a territory of 11 acres, which houses several academic buildings with lecture halls, sports facilities, creative spaces, laboratories for exact and humanities sciences. There is a large dining hall, library, additional support offices, and green areas for walking and outdoor recreation. The residence where students are accommodated during their stay at the summer center is located within a 15-minute walk of the campus.

Admission dates and extra charges

Programs usually take place in July, with a duration of two or three weeks depending on the student's choice. The schedule for students includes almost daily English lessons and campus events, while other days are organized excursions to York, Liverpool and Manchester. If desired, students can add a trip to London with accommodation and excursions to the program for two days.

The cost of the courses already includes expenses for accommodation and meals, extracurricular activities, a complete curriculum, academic resources and most excursions. Additional costs will be required to pay for some off-site events, trips to London, individual English lessons, personal expenses.

Enrolment process

The admissions committee expects applicants to submit a completed registration form and personal documents, after which they will conduct online testing to determine their current English language level and provide complete information about the dates and schedule of the selected program.
