General English Course

  • Age: 12–18 years old.
  • Duration: 2 or 3 weeks.

This course is designed for teenagers who want to improve their spoken English and feel more comfortable in an English-speaking environment. The purpose of the program is not so much to increase vocabulary as it is to teach you how to use the language in real situations: discuss, ask questions, express your opinion, understand live speech.

Classes are held on weekdays — 15 academic hours per week are provided. Before starting, participants take a test — groups of the same level are formed based on its results. Modern teaching materials are used in class, assignments for discussion, role-playing situations, analysis of current topics are used. Some topics are related to what children see during excursions: New York, US government institutions, culture and history.

The focus is on speaking practice and confidence in speech. Teachers regularly provide feedback, and at the end of the course each participant receives a certificate and a written report on progress.

Standard Tour Package (Classic)

  • Age: 12–18 years old.
  • Duration: 2 weeks.

Classic — this is a basic program option with an emphasis on New York City: it includes a general English language course (15 academic hours per week) and a standard tour program.

The idea is to give teenagers an understanding of the city through real routes, not short sightseeing trips. During two weeks, the group goes to Manhattan several times: they will take walks across the Brooklyn Bridge, the World Trade Center area, Fifth Avenue, visit museums and observation decks. The route even includes a visit to the UN headquarters, where participants get acquainted with the work of the international organization.

The program includes a day in the capital of the USA: participants explore downtown Washington, the Capitol Building, the White House and the memorial complex.

Tours are inextricably linked to the academic part: topics discussed in class are then reinforced during excursions. This format helps to use the language in a real environment. Classic is suitable for those who want to combine English lessons with an active program in New York City without additional long trips.

Extended Tour Package (Experience)

  • Age: 12–18 years
  • Duration: 2 weeks.

The Experience format is designed for those who want to see more than just New York in a short time! The basis remains a general English course, but the geography of the program is significantly expanded: in addition to regular trips to Manhattan, a two-day trip to Niagara Falls with an overnight stay at a hotel and a boat trip to the waterfall line is added.

The route includes Washington and, as a rule, Philadelphia. In the capital, participants walk through the city center, see the Capitol and the White House, and visit the main attractions. In Philadelphia, the group spends a day in the historical center of the city: walks around Old City, sees Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was adopted, and the Liberty Bell. The walk takes place along the 18th-century blocks — this is one of the few parts of the country where colonial development has been so fully preserved.

The philosophy of the package — to show different sides of the country: the financial and cultural center in New York, the political center in Washington, the natural scale of Niagara. English classes are held every weekday. Excursions complement the learning process: topics that are discussed in class are then discussed in practice during trips.

Work Project: Technologies, AI, Application Development

  • Age: 12–18 years old.
  • Duration: 2 or 3 weeks.

The course is designed for teenagers who are interested in technologies and modern digital tools. The program combines the study of English with practical tasks, that is, the language is used as a working tool: participants discuss ideas, formulate hypotheses, prepare presentations and defend the project in English.

The subject matter is related to artificial intelligence, digital services, mobile applications. Classes are built on the principle of «from theory to practice»: first vocabulary and key concepts are introduced, then the group moves on to developing its own idea — work in teams, distribute roles, prepare a final presentation.

The focus of the program is the development of confidence in public speaking, argumentation skills and teamwork. At the end of the course, participants present the project and receive a certificate with a report on the results.

  • Type of education: blended.
  • Type of institution: summer language school based at a university.

Summer program based at St. Peter's University in Jersey City, near New York City, where children live in university dormitories and study in academic buildings on the same campus — all within walking distance.

The session lasts 2-3 weeks, and participants are aged 12 to 18. Weekdays include English classes, with scheduled excursions around the city and trips to other cities in the USA. This format will provide an opportunity to feel the rhythm of American campus life, see the country not from a bus window, but from within — through the city, university and live communication. It will be a busy summer with a clear schedule and constant supervision by adults, guaranteeing safety.

Educational process

Classes are held on weekdays, with 15 academic hours of English per week. The groups are small, averaging around 15 people, so the teacher has time to work with each participant.

Before the start of the course, children take a test: based on its results, groups of the same level are formed so that the pace of classes is comfortable for everyone.

Classes focus on speaking skills, listening comprehension, reading and writing. Some assignments are related to the places participants visit during excursions. The language is reinforced through real-life situations and discussion of what they have seen.

Things to know about

  • St. Peter's University — one of the few Jesuit universities actually located in the New York metropolitan area.
  • The program includes a visit to the UN building. Not all summer schools include this site in the basic itinerary — as a rule, it is an additional paid option.
  • An extended version provides a two-day trip to Niagara Falls with overnight stay. For a two-week shift, this is quite a busy schedule: New York, Washington and Niagara — all within one course!

Accommodation, meals, prices

Accommodation is arranged on the campus of Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, a Jesuit university. The university was founded in 1872, and its main buildings are designed in a traditional style for American colleges — brick construction, neat inner courtyards, and a clear campus structure. The territory is compact and "gathered": academic buildings, dormitories, and the dining hall are located nearby, all within walking distance.

The dormitories are modern student buildings offering single and double rooms. In some buildings, the bathroom is in the room, while in others — it is shared with several people.

The campus is located in Jersey City — a residential area of the New York agglomeration: there are grocery stores, pharmacies, and cafes nearby, and within a few minutes — a PATH train station, from where you can reach Manhattan in 20 minutes. A park with a waterfront promenade is also located nearby, offering views of the New York skyline and the Statue of Liberty.

Activities St Peter's University Summer Camp, Summer Camp at St Peter's University

Almost every day, children go on trips to New York — these are full-fledged, pleasant and educational walks around Manhattan with the accompaniment of teachers: they walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, in the World Trade Center area, stroll along Fifth Avenue, climb to the observation decks of skyscrapers. The program includes a visit to the UN headquarters — the group is taken inside, shown the meeting halls and told how everything works here.

A separate day is devoted to Central Park. This is a long walk through one of the most famous parks in the world: alleys, lakes, open spaces — those very places that are often shown in Hollywood movies.

The program also includes a one-day trip to the capital of the United States with a walk around the historical center: the Capitol, the White House, the main memorials, without rushing and chaotic movements.

An extended version provides a two-day trip to Niagara Falls: participants stay overnight in a hotel, and the next day they go out on a boat literally to the line of falling water1 The trip is not combined with other excursions.

In the evenings, children return to campus: after dinner they are awaited by sports games, tournaments, quizzes, general meetings, some of the guys play basketball or football, and some participate in team games.

Advantages

  • Accommodation in Jersey City: only 20 minutes by train to Manhattan, while the area is quiet and safe.
  • The program already includes tickets to museums and observation decks of iconic attractions such as MoMA, Empire State Building, UN, etc. — no unexpected expenses.
  • There is an option with a trip to Niagara Falls with overnight stay in a hotel and a boat tour almost to the edge of the waterfall.
  • Groups are small — approximately 15 people: the teacher sees everyone, the child does not "get lost" in the crowd.
  • You can choose a single or double room — the accommodation format is clear in advance.
