Primary School

  • Age of students — from 7 years old.

Prep School accepts girls from 7 years old. Primary school classroom teachers work according to the Key Stage 2 curriculum, which creates a happy, safe and caring environment for learning basic skills and studying general subjects.

The class sizes at the preparatory stage of the school are small, which allows teachers to focus on developing individual literacy and mathematical skills of each student. The schedule of junior students will include both academic subjects and recreational activities. From English and mathematics to sports competitions and excursions, every day will contribute to the versatile development of the child, without overloading him.

For busy parents, the usual school schedule is being transformed into a flexible one: Children arriving at 8:00 a.m. are supervised and breakfast is provided. At the end of the school day, there is supervised preparation for the next day and activities until 17:25, followed by dinner.

  • Number of students: about 220,
  • Language of instruction: English,
  • Type of studying: girls only.

Adcote School for Girls is an award—winning residential school offering quality education to girls aged 7-18. Its campus is located in the heart of rural Shropshire.

One of the great advantages of the institution is the absence of gender stereotypes — girls are leaders, excel in physics, engineering and technology, in English, drama and art, can freely practice and achieve results in any sport that the British school offers. This approach helps students to believe in their abilities and understand that career paths are open to them in any field.

As an institution for girls, the school specializes in preparing specialists of the future, using extensive knowledge about methods, approaches and programs, as well as how to inspire and challenge female students, unlock their potential and realize their ambitions. That is why the educational institution regularly takes places in the rankings of the best schools and annually celebrates some of the best GCSE and A-Level exam results in the UK: more than half of the students achieve maximum scores.

When is the best time to apply to UK schools, and what should be expected?

Ideally, start the application process when you feel ready. The unpredictability of recent times, like the 2020 pandemic, highlights the importance of feeling secure and prepared for such a significant step. Research the school's website, subscribe to newsletters, follow them on social media, and don’t hesitate to ask questions.

Educational process

The school uses modern technologies in the process of teaching its pupils. For example, using Google Workspace for Education, it provides girls with flexibility and accessibility in studying subjects, communicating with teachers, homework and research. Some lessons and workshops take place remotely using video recordings or live broadcasts, and homework can be found at any time in Google Classroom.

Foreign students have access to additional lessons in English - the ESL course. Depending on age, the number of classes will vary:

  • Grades 3-9: 1 hour per week of General English,
  • Grades 10-11: 4 hours per week (IGCSE English and Academic English support),
  • Grades 12-13: 3 hours per week (IELTS and Academic English support).

Accommodation, meals, prices

Students from 8 to 18 years old can stay in the school residence, one of the two residential buildings on the territory. Girls are offered a choice of the most convenient accommodation format: full, weekly and flexible boarding. The Aston Hall residence has double rooms with bathrooms, and in Norman House the girls live next door to two, three or four female students, while having separate bathrooms in the rooms. Both buildings have common living rooms for relaxation, socializing and self-study: sofas, TV, board games, vending machine with goodies will allow you to relax after a busy day. The neighborhood of the students is determined by the age criterion, that is, girls of a similar age will be accommodated in one room. This approach will help strengthen friendly ties between the students and create comfortable living conditions. The residences are also occupied by the staff of the educational institution — tutors who organize round-the-clock support and care for the pupils of the Adcote School.

The Darby School Restaurant operates on campus, providing healthy and balanced meals to every student. The menu is varied and includes dishes from many national cuisines, and in the presence of allergic reactions or other medical indications, the team of chefs will provide alternative meals.

Girls can pay attention to their interests and hobbies thanks to a comfortable schedule of academic classes. On campus, they are offered sports training and classes in several types of arts, and outside the educational area there are excursions, walking tours to local attractions, and visits to entertainment centers.
