Since 1861, the Sacred Heart School of Montreal has been the city's only English Catholic high school for girls, producing successful and confident girls. The school strives to develop intelligence, wisdom, compassion, and a sense of justice in young women. School of the Sacred Heart of Montreal is part of a worldwide network of schools that share common goals, mission and values. The educational institution offers a 12th grade program.
The School of the Sacred Heart in Montreal builds on the principles underlying the Society of the Sacred Heart, founded by Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat in 1800. These include teaching girls to participate in public life outside the home or church. Barat sought to encourage girls to play a transformative role in society, which was a unique perspective for the time. Sacred Heart continues to pursue this ideal, realizing it in modern curriculum, extracurricular, online programs and solving the challenges of the 21st century.
The Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take college-level courses in high school. The AP course allows students to study in depth academic disciplines in close collaboration with a specially trained teacher.
Students who achieve an AP qualification score can earn credits on university admission. AP courses are externally reviewed by the American Council of Colleges.
The Sacred Heart Grade 12 Program provides students with the unique opportunity to earn an Ontario High School diploma in the heart of downtown Montreal. The school has partnered with OVS (Ontario's Virtual School, accredited by the Ontario Department of Education) to provide a rich online curriculum paired with scheduled physical activities taught by qualified and certified subject teachers. Students will immerse themselves in an online learning program with the support of class teachers who develop instruction, instructional activities, and provide quality feedback.
Academic student counseling is a key feature of the course, as students will have unlimited access to coaching, mentoring, subject support, and university admission and career planning. The uniqueness of the program lies in the integration of practical experience, obtaining real life skills, work experience, career opportunities for students. Additionally, the students work out at least 40 hours of community service, participate in the health care program.
Sacred Heart offers daytime accommodation and accommodation. Most of the boarders are accommodated in separate rooms: a shared toilet, shower room, round-the-clock supervision, a food program. Sacred Heart has a long history (since 1990) creating a warm, loving, caring atmosphere for its students. The scholarship program was made possible by the generosity of the Fellowship of the Sacred Heart and fundraising initiatives. In 2019, 20% of Sacred Heart students received scholarships: financial assistance in the amount of $ 379,000 was provided to 49 families, the average scholarship was $ 7,750.
The Duke of Edinburgh International Prize allows young people to define what they are passionate about. Awards recognize achievement in 4 areas: service, skill development, physical recreation, adventure travel. The award encourages young people to take part in volunteer work, to benefit others, and to develop responsiveness and compassion.
