Pontifical Xavierian University is a leading Colombian educational institution and one of the oldest universities in South America, operating continuously since its formation in 1623. In addition to the main campus in central Bogota, the city of Cali in the southwest of the country hosts a 2nd campus. It is one of 28 universities on the continent, run by the Jesuit organization Friends of Jesus, founded by Francis Xavier, and the university is named after him.
Pontifical Xavierian University has a total of 19 educational faculties (medicine, engineering, humanities, architecture, theology). In 2003, the university was accredited by the Ministry of National Education as an institution of the highest quality, becoming the first university in Colombia to receive this title.

Bogotá is a city of almost 9 million people, but it seems to be made up of many small neighborhoods with a clear sense of community. Bogotá has a low cost of living, a high rating in the field of housing, tolerance, excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation. Colombians are known for their friendliness, they are incredibly generous, open-minded people.
Few speak English here, but it provides an excellent opportunity to speak Spanish for international students.
The Pontifical University is located in Bogota, the second campus is in Cali, the new research building will be located on the northwest side of the campus, next to 7 Carrera Street and will become a strategic entry point to the university. With a built-up area of about 13,197 m², it will accommodate laboratories, offices, cafeterias, classrooms, auditoriums, public places.
The University of Xavier has 2 libraries: the General Library and the Mario Valenzuela Library, SJ. The Mario Valenzuela Library specializes in philosophy and theology, is considered the best in these disciplines in the region, has 7 documentation centers:
The library fund has 418 thousand titles of books, magazines, dissertations, scores, cards, VHS and DVD videos, slides, sound videos and sound recordings. The system has about 90 subscriptions to databases and access to the full text content of journals, books, dissertations, slides in digital format. It offers services such as bibliographic reference in specialized subjects and bibliographic exchange to collect data, including journal articles and other documents from libraries in Colombia and around the world. It serves students and teachers around the clock, Monday through Friday.
The academic year is traditionally divided into semesters.
The applicant must provide a document of previous academic performance, as well as exam results. More than half (60%) of applicants go to PUJ, however the percentage may vary depending on the faculty and the popularity of the course.
