Miami (Florida) is one of the most important and popular resorts not only in the US, but all over the world: here, almost all year round, a bright sun shines, and a pleasant warm climate provides a stunning beach holiday. The city is also famous for its entertainment infrastructure, an abundance of first-class shops, amazingly beautiful architecture and an amazing national diversity of inhabitants. The OHLA Miami school campus is located in the heart of this vibrant city, which gives you the opportunity to get to know all its sights, to plunge into the life of the American resort metropolis.
Quick overview:
About the educational course: On the first day of the program, all students take an entrance test: it determines their level of knowledge and distributes them to the appropriate group - so training becomes more efficient, quick and comfortable. Initial testing consists of a general language exam and an individual interview with the teacher.
Each student can choose the optimal intensity of the course:
The lessons are aimed at the overall improvement of all key language knowledge and skills:
Particular emphasis is placed on the development of oral speech, communication skills, so that children do not have difficulty communicating in any life situation. In addition, the classes conduct themed blocks to prepare for future events, excursions, visiting the iconic attractions of Miami and Orlando.
International students of summer programs can choose to live in a host family or in a residence (note some age restrictions prescribed in each option).
1) General student residence
Coral Gables Residence is open to students 12-18 years old: it is located about 5 miles from the school (in the mornings a free shuttle bus is organized). Each student is accommodated in a double comfortable studio with private facilities and shower room: the rooms are equipped with necessary equipment (including cable TV and Wi-Fi), fully furnished. Weekly maid cleaning is carried out, bed linen and towels are changed, the whole area is guarded around the clock.
There is a full board meal (three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner). For the duration of excursions (especially long ones - for example, in Orlando parks) each student receives a voucher for lunch.
2) Host family
Accommodation in a host family is available to students from 16 years of age or older. This is a great opportunity to learn more about American traditions, cultural characteristics, mentality, and also to practice communicative and speech skills daily in direct communication with native speakers.
All families carefully selected and checked by school representatives live within 60-90 minutes of the journey from the school, in a calm and prestigious district of Kendall. Each student receives an unlimited travel card, facilitating a daily transfer to the school.
All host families speak Spanish and English, there are no more than 2 foreign students in each house: the accommodation department strives to achieve the maximum ethnic and cultural diversity.
Students live in private rooms, fully furnished and with necessary appliances, and eat on a half-board basis (on weekdays) and full board (on weekends). Lunch on weekdays is usually held by students in the school grounds, and during long excursions each student receives a voucher for lunch.
Departures are held on Saturdays, arrivals - on Sundays. The minimum booking period is 2 weeks.
In addition to regular city excursions and walks in Miami, shopping and visiting the main city attractions, students are offered beach holidays and water sports, picnics and barbecues, beach volleyball and windsurfing, boating. On weekends, student groups often go to the famous theme parks of Orlando - these are almost unlimited entertainment opportunities for any age!
On average, up to 10 recreational activities and excursions are held every week: on weekdays, students are usually expected to travel a few hours after lunch plus 1-3 full day excursions, and weekend student groups often spend in themed and entertainment parks Orlando and other neighboring cities.
List of most interesting variants of pastime and leisure:
The summer camp is located in the respectable Brickell area - the famous and large financial center of South Florida, a beautiful and infrastructurally rich area of the city. Often Brickell is called South Manhattan - there are many skyscrapers that form the unique style and appearance of the district and city: offices of large international companies, banks, shops, famous restaurants, etc.
The lessons are held in Brickell Campus, located in the high-rise complex Four Ambassadors. The school is located in Tower No. 3 and occupies the 18th floor almost completely: the windows offer stunning views of the sea and the panorama of the city. For students open doors 25 bright spacious classrooms, 3 computer classes with modern PCs, a special training center with interactive and language equipment. A spacious cozy lounge serves as a common gathering place: here groups gather before departure on excursions, it is possible to communicate with classmates and new friends. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the school.
International pupils of the school have the opportunity to freely use all the services and facilities of the complex: large swimming pools with jacuzzi, gym and fitness room, health and fitness center.
