The university was founded on October 30, 1911 as the Nizhny Novgorod Teachers' Institute. The name of Kozma Minin was assigned to the modern university in 2012.

In the building of the educational building No. 2 there is a modern collective work space "Boiling Point - Minin University" for various events (trainings, master classes, round tables, seminars, foresight sessions, open lectures, sessions, accelerations, etc.), equipped with transformable partitions, mobile furniture and state-of-the-art multimedia equipment. 

On the basis of Minin University in the educational building No. 7, a technopark of universal pedagogical competencies and a quantorium have been created. 

In the educational building No. 1, the exposition and exhibition space "Museum of Enlightenment" is open and operates.

To conduct laboratory and practical classes in the summer, the university has an agrobiostation in the village of Dmitrievskoye, Krasnobakovsky district, Nizhny Novgorod region. On the territory of the agrobiostation there are 3 panel houses, a brick building for students and teachers, 2 laboratories. 

The university also includes a driving school with its own circuit, where drivers of categories B and aircraft are trained. 

In the summer, a sports and recreation camp "Veselyi Bereg" opens for students and employees of the university on the shore of the Gorky reservoir of the Gorodetsky district. It has 35 residential wooden houses of summer type, 3 log houses, a dining room, warehouses, a medical center, a modernized sports ground, 3 sanitary blocks. At the same time, 250 students and teachers rest in the camp.

All educational buildings, dormitories, a sports and recreation camp, an agro-biological station are equipped with fire safety systems, video surveillance systems are installed in the buildings and dormitories. 

The University has the necessary equipment and various technical means to ensure the effective conduct of various events: acoustic systems, radio systems, power amplifiers, laptops with the necessary software, sets of musical instruments, costumes for amateur groups.
