NSU named after P.F. Lesgaft is one of the oldest and first universities in the country, within the walls of which physical education specialists are eduacted. 

The implementation of the educational program at NSU named after P.F. Lesgaft provides for the following forms of organization of activities: lectures, practical and seminar classes, extracurricular activities.

The structure of NSU named after P.F. Lesgaft includes:

P.F. Lesgaft NSU publishes its own newspaper "Lesgaftovets", annually becomes the organizer, executor and venue for scientific conferences and congresses on topical issues of physical culture and sports.

NSU was founded in 1896 by P.F. Lesgaft as "temporary courses for the eduaction of leaders of physical education and games."

Lesgaft NSU is the only civilian university in the Russian Federation that has been awarded the Military Order.

At the disposal of NSU named after P.F. Lesgaft there is a dormitory: 1 building, 596 places. Check-in is made on the basis of a personal application of the student and a contract of employment. The dormitory has conditions for comfortable living, a pass system, video surveillance and a fire protection system, and common kitchens are equipped. There are canteens and buffets in the educational buildings.

P.F. Lesgaft NSU creates conditions for the harmonious development of students, special attention is paid to aesthetic education, the formation of a scientific worldview and active citizenship.

Students of NSU named after P.F. Lesgaft take an active part in sports events:

• Festival of Winter Sports, Health and TRP;
• Russian Polyathlon Championship;
• Russian Fencing Championship;
• Open All-Russian mass competitions in speed skating "Ice of our hope".

The main part of the NSU educational buildings is located in the Admiralty district of St. Petersburg. In total, the University has about 12 facilities at its disposal, including:

• 6 educational buildings;
• Pool;
• Rowing base;
• The center;
• Athletics Stadium;
• Sports arena.

The academic year at NSU named after P.F. Lesgaft begins on September 1 as a standard, the end depends on the schedule of the educational process. One course consists of two semesters and two intermediate examination sessions.

Vacations during one academic year are on average 8-9 weeks, excluding holidays.

Acceptance of documents for full-time form begins on June 20 of the current year. At the same time, an applicant can apply for 5 directions. Deadlines for accepting documents for state-funded places:

• Until July 11 - for persons entering the entrance examinations conducted by NSU named after P.F. Lesgaft independently;
• Until July 25 - for persons applying for the results of the exam.

Entrance examinations are held from July 12 to July 25. 

There are three ways to submit documents:

• in person to the admissions office;
• by mail;
• in electronic form (through the portal "Public Services").

At the moment, more than 5500 students study at NSU named after P.F. Lesgaft in various areas and levels. More than 700 state-funded places are allocated annually. The most popular destinations:

• "Physical Culture";
• "Sport".

More than 70% of graduates are employed in the first year after graduating from NSU named after P.F. Lesgaft.
