In 1779, the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts was founded in the city of St. Petersburg. RGISI is the oldest university in Russia in the largest university in Europe, based on teaching in the field of performing arts.

For nonresident full-time students, RSIS provides a six-storey corridor-type dormitory. On each floor there are kitchens and common areas. In addition, the Institute rents one floor of the dormitory of St. Petersburg State Concert Hall named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov.
In the study building, students and staff are given access to a 120-seat canteen and a buffet located in the foyer near the Educational Theatre.

Facilities and equipment at Russian State Institute of Performing Arts, RGISI
The entire educational process at the RSISS takes place in 3 buildings, the total area of which is more than 11,000 square meters. For the education of students, the university manages modern, materially and technically equipped classrooms designed for practical and lecture disciplines, rooms for dancing, rhythmics, fencing and stage combat. All classes for plastic disciplines are equipped with mirrors, ballet machines, acrobatic mats. The total number of classrooms of the institute is 102.
For practice, students are also provided with an educational theater with a capacity of 500 seats, equipped with professional lighting and sound equipment and a modern music and acoustic system.
Students can also use the institute's library with 36 seats. Students have free access to the library fund, represented by educational and scientific literature and information materials, access to the Internet.
Admission dates and extra charges
The learning process is divided into two semesters: autumn (September-January) and spring (February-June). Each semester ends with an examination session.
When studying at RSIS, students assume the following additional costs:

Enrolment process
For admission to the RSIS, the applicant is obliged to provide the following list of documents to the admission committee:
- Identity document, citizenship;
- State-issued document on education and qualifications;

- Documents confirming individual achievements, the results of which are taken into account at the reception;
- Photography (for each contest);
- A document confirming registration in the individual accounting system (if any).

In 2021, 182 people were able to enter the institute for the budget full-time form, a total of 369 applicants managed to enter the university this year.

After graduating from the RSIS, graduates can work in the field of theatrical and performing arts, becoming qualified directors, dancers, clowns and specialists in the puppet theater.
Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol
For admission to the educational programs of bachelor's and specialist's degree, the applicant must:
- Completed education not lower than secondary general;
- Points received for the Unified State Exam are not lower:
- Russian language — 56;
- Literature — 45.
- Points obtained on the basis of the results of the entrance profile test conducted by the institute are not lower than 41.
For admission to master's programs it is necessary:
- Completed higher education;
- Successful passing of entrance examinations conducted by the Institute, with scores not lower:
- Professional test — 41;
- Creative Challenge , 41;
- Interview — 41.
For admission to postgraduate programs it is necessary:
