The University was established as a result of the reorganization of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University and the Moscow State Forest University in 2016. It is generally accepted that the history of the educational institution begins in 1919. It is the largest scientific center of the country's forestry complex.

The learning process includes a course of lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory classes, educational and pre-diploma practice.

The university provides five dormitories for nonresident full-time students. The cost of living per month is from 478 rubles.

For meals for students and staff, the university has a two-story dining room and buffets in the main buildings.

The process of formation of the university is carried out in 11 buildings, equipped with classrooms for practical and lecture classes. Modern technologies are actively used in the classrooms: computers, projection screens, multimedia projectors, audio systems. 

Students are given free access to the educational and scientific library with two reading rooms.

For sports, the university has a sports complex with a swimming pool and a tennis court.

At MF MSTU, the learning process is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. At the end of each, an examination session is held, after passing the students, they are given vacations (in winter in January, in summer in July and August).
