Description of Mersin University
Mersin University is an academic institution of higher education in Turkey that has been active in academic and academic work since the beginning of 1992. Currently, the University is well located with its main building and a small well-equipped campus in Mersin.
This is a fairly large university, which annually accepts about 29,000 people for education. Teaching university staff is a team of more than 1,400 teachers.
Educational process
Each new student is assigned an academic advisor from the faculty of the relevant department even before enrollment: the advisor helps draw up a schedule, monitors academic progress, and supports the student through to graduation. The university provides high-achieving students with the opportunity to transfer internally to an equivalent program, and graduates of professional schools with a vertical transition to bachelor's degree programs.
Distance learning is well developed: Mersin University was the first in Turkey to introduce a distance format in technical programs in the 2002–2003 academic year. A number of associate degree programs (programming, electronic technologies, pharmaceutical services, healthcare management, occupational safety, and others) are delivered remotely under the same curriculum as full-time programs, with in-person proctored exams.
Faculties and colleges
The university brings together a wide range of faculties: natural sciences, architecture, communications, dentistry, theology, economics and administrative sciences, education, engineering, fine arts, fisheries, health sciences, humanities and social sciences, maritime studies, medicine, music and performing arts, nursing, pharmacy, sports sciences, and tourism.
The structure also includes institutes (of educational sciences, fine arts, health sciences, natural sciences, social sciences), the State Conservatory, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Jewelry Technology and Design, and a network of vocational and applied schools in Mersin and the districts of the province (Anamur, Aydıncık, Erdemli, Gülnar, Silifke, Mut).
Scientific achievements
The university has a number of research centers.
- The Cilicia Archaeology Research Center (KAAM) conducts field research and excavations in the region and publishes the scientific periodical journal OLBA, indexed in Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI), EBSCO, ProQuest, and TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM.
- The MEİTAM Center for Advanced Technologies has scientific and technical infrastructure and research laboratories for conducting interdisciplinary research, testing, and analyses throughout Turkey.

Scholarships Mersin University
For students from low-income families, the Student Social Assistance Project is in place, run by the University Alumni Association (MERMED): scholarships are funded through monthly voluntary contributions from faculty, staff, and alumni.
Students in need are provided with breakfast grants — on weekdays, around 1,500 people receive them daily at the central campus and schools in the districts of the region. In cooperation with the Mersin municipality, some students are provided with free passes for city buses. A number of annual scholarships and grants are also provided through the General Directorate of Credits and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
