Kents Hill School (KHS) is one of the oldest, most prestigious and respected boarding schools in the United States. The school was founded in 1824, but today it is a progressive institution combining traditional methods with an innovative approach, supported by modern technological equipment. The percentage ratio of the number of students to the number of teachers is 6: 1. The school maintains an international atmosphere, so every fourth pupil of the school is a foreigner.
The main goal of the KHS school is to provide academic progress for students with various levels of training: for this purpose students are engaged in small training groups from 6 to 16 people, which helps the teacher to devote the necessary amount of attention to each student. Also, each student has a scientific curator with whom he works during the school year (for one teacher for 6-8 students).Among the honorable awards of the Kents Hill School is the Siemens Foundation Award, which is awarded for the high quality of scientific and mathematical programs in an educational institution. The school is also proud of one of its teachers: David Pierson, who received the title of best teacher of middle classes Harvard Singer Prizes. A prestigious award is issued upon the conclusion of a special council of observers from Harvard University.
The curriculum is designed for high school students (from 9 to 12) and offers an advanced course in several subjects Advanced Placement:
To graduate from the school, the student must attend a mandatory number of training programs (the number varies depending on the class), and also be an active participant in the public life of the school.
Most of the high school students who graduated from the Kents Hill School are successfully enrolled in leading American or Canadian higher schools - Princeton, Queens, Yale, California and Washington Universities, Loyola Marymount, Sacred Heart.
To accommodate students on the territory of KHS, there are 5 student dormitories - boys and girls live in different buildings. In each residence there is a laundry, a common room for recreation and playrooms. The rooms are designed for 1-2 people, a bathroom on the floor. In addition to students, one or two school employees live in the residence, who look after the order and help the students if necessary.
Meals at the Kents Hill School are organized on a full board basis - breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining room on campus. The menu offers balanced and nutritious dishes from fresh products: pasta, Caesar salad, cream soup, meatballs, vegetable burgers and much more.
In addition to an excellent academic program, the Kents Hill School takes care that its students have the opportunity to devote their free time to physical activity or creative activities.
Studios and mugs for creative pursuits:
At the weekend, for the children, off-site excursions are organized for the whole day to the nearest cities: Portland, Boston, Augusta and others. Here, high school students can go shopping, go to the movies or to concerts with new friends. If no trips are planned, then the students of the school can go skiing in one of the resorts, go fishing, attend an open lecture organized on the campus - all and do not list!
The Kents Hill School administration often arranges trips for its students not only in the country, but also in Europe - visiting leadership seminars, participating in volunteer projects and programs, and much more. In addition, the school has its own exchange program in France and Spain.
The campus of the Kents Hill School is located in a small town a few hours' drive from Boston. The total area of the territory is about 400 acres and accommodates all the necessary infrastructure for studying, living and active recreation for schoolchildren and adolescents: there are many studios and sections that help children discover sports and creative potential, there are open and closed sports grounds, tennis courts, fitness center, a basketball field, an ice arena and that's not all. Wi-Fi access is available throughout the property.
