The International University of Japan (IUJ) is a private institution of higher education. It is the first university in the country that does not provide a bachelor's degree program, and one of the few in Japan that conducts education in English.

The number of students does not exceed 400 people, but among them are students from 50 countries. In honor of the 25th anniversary of the institution, an attempt was made to set a Guinness World Record in the field of the largest diversity of nationalities on the territory of the university!

IUJ provides an opportunity to undergo education in master's, doctoral, MBA programs in higher schools in the following areas:

  • International relations
  • International management.

Accommodation, meals, prices

All students of the university live on campus until the end of their studies.

There are two types of accommodation in the dormitories: single and family.

For single students there are 300 rooms with bathrooms, toilets. Pupils are provided with furniture, household appliances, bed linen. Kitchens are in common use, for each student there is a cabinet for storing dishes. The building has prepared large recreation rooms with billiards, TV, video player, classes for self-study.

Apartments for family students are two-room unfurnished apartments with a kitchen, toilet and bathroom. They accommodate married couples, but are not intended to live with children. To register for accommodation in a family apartment, you need to "stand" in line on the waiting list, since there are only 18 such apartments.

In the canteen of the university you can buy a set menu, meals are organized according to the general schedule. 95% of the dishes are halal, but vegetarian dishes are also available to order. Vending machines are installed on the second floor of the cafeteria, various food is also found in the school store: freshly baked bread, hot and cold drinks, snacks and much more.

Activities International University of Japan

Each full-time freshman automatically becomes a member of the Graduate Student Organization, the Student Union, and the Executive Committee – the bodies responsible for activities, communication with university leaders, well-being, and active life on campus.

Every year, iUJ holds a number of events: IUJ Olympic Games, Ski Day, festive parties, music and game evenings, etc. Several times during the academic year, specialists of the international sector are invited to the university to give lectures, hold conferences.

Students with incomplete language knowledge can attend two additional education programs: Japanese and English.

Facilities and equipment at International University of Japan

The campus is located in Minamiuonuma, a small town in southeastern Niigata Prefecture. To get to Tokyo, you will have to overcome 230 km.

IUJ has two research institutes: the campus-based center and the Center for Global Communications, located in Tokyo. The Center's research activities focus on the social, economic, cultural implications of new communication technologies.

The learning process takes place in classrooms, computer classes with innovative equipment. Full-size gyms, sports, and game rooms are available to students daily throughout the day. For sports, equipment is provided: balls, dumbbells, nets, weights, etc. Outside the campus there are four tennis courts, two of which work around the clock. The surrounding area of the university is adapted for various activities: running, cycling or skateboarding, hiking.

Admission dates and extra charges

The academic year has two semesters, several weeks of session in winter and summer. Classes are held from Monday to Friday, sometimes on Saturday.

You can apply for admission on the official website of the university on the following dates:

  • International applicants: 24 January, 14 February, 24 March
  • Local applicants: February 16, March 23, May 5, June 8.

Admission requirements:

  • Clearly defined motivation for continuing education, research and career goals that the IUJ can support
  • Academic success at the bachelor's level in the form of a diploma, official transcripts
  • Maturity for a demanding academic experience
  • A fair sense of values to be able to become a member of a multinational and multicultural community
