Innsbruck Medical University

Innsbruck Medizinische Universität or Innsbruck Medical University (abbreviated as MUI) is a state-type educational institution that has been active in research since the distant 2004. The university has a small campus in the city of Innsbruck.

• The number of dental students is about 120 annually,
• the Faculty of Dentistry is the second-largest university center for training dentists in Austria.

The university researches three-dimensional bioprinting and biotechnology, and works on developing substances and research methods without the use of animals.

Other research areas include genetics, immunology, immuno-oncology, immunotherapy, and cell biology. In cardiology, digital medicine and artificial intelligence are studied.

At the ÖH training center, around 200 student tutors teach other students. Each year, the center offers 2,400 places in practical classes, simulation training, and clinical case discussions. During Skills Night, medical and nursing students jointly practice providing emergency care. Skills Night and Sonodays involve practical training over entire weekends.

Students have access to the Famulatur clinical practice abroad and the KPJ clinical practice year. Destinations include China through EURASIA Pacific Uninet, Georgia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. The programs in Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam are connected with ASEA Uninet.

At Brown University in Providence, USA, students can complete a four-week Famulatur or KPJ placement.

• Institute of Molecular Biochemistry — lipid metabolism, lysosomal storage diseases, membrane and organelle biology,
• Institute of Molecular Biology — iron homeostasis, molecular microbiology and fungal metabolism,
• joint neuroscience unit — Alzheimer's disease, microglia, neurodegeneration and neuroimmunology,
• Institute of Developmental Immunology — aging, inflammation and the immune system,
• Institute of Hygiene and Medical Microbiology — antibiotic resistance, bacteria, genomics and molecular biology,
• Department of Internal Medicine V — oncology, precision medicine and tumor biology.

The ÖH study center was founded in 2016. It was created by students, who continue to run the center with the support of the university and other sponsors.

This is an educational institution that is in the list of TOP-20 of the best of the best Austrian universities, as well as in the list of TOP-5 of the best at the global level.

The university is considered to be medium in scale, since here every year about 3000 students take a course. The faculty of the university is about 900 teachers of the highest category.
