The European University in St. Petersburg was founded in 1994 - at the stage of creation, the educational institution was supported by the mayor of St. Petersburg Anatoly Sobchak. An educational institution has accepted graduate students in social sciences, humanities - anthropology, history, art history, political science, sociology, economics - since 1996.
EUSPb accepts graduates from different regions of Russia and foreign universities for education, has developed international and standard master's, postgraduate programs. At international courses, disciplines are taught in English. The main scientific direction of the university is social and human sciences, which are taught at 6 faculties. Scientific developments are carried out in dozens of research centers open on the basis of the educational institution.
Teachers at the European University are leading internationally recognized researchers, many of whom have earned doctorates at prestigious European and American universities. Scientists working at EUSP take part in the work of the Open Government, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Russian Science Foundation and the Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations.
