CSU Channel Island is one of the youngest public universities in the United States, but it is popular and in demand among applicants from all over the world: it has qualified teachers, offering a wide range of curricula in sought—after specializations, including art, applied physics, anthropology, economics, business industry and others. Since 2018, the Faculty of Mechatronics has been opened, a science combining electronics, mechanics and computer technology.

CSU Channel Island students live in four student villages: Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Anacapa, and Town Center. All residences mainly offer double rooms with access to shared bathrooms, small kitchens, relaxation rooms and self-study. Single and triple rooms and deluxe bedrooms with improved facilities are sometimes available.

By staying in one of the residences, students can also arrange a meal plan: a certain number of meals per week, which can be used in all cafeterias and dining halls. There are about 10 food outlets on the campus offering a wide variety of dishes based on national and international recipes.

There are more than 40 thematic communities on the university campus, a dozen sports clubs of intra- and interuniversity sports, creative and volunteer teams. Students have extensive opportunities to realize their talent not only at the university level, but also to a wider audience — during the year CSU Channel Island holds a number of events with invited specialists, participates in external events.

The academic year covers almost the entire calendar year, as the dates of some programs differ from most courses. There are two main semesters in the academic year:

• Autumn: September-December,
• Spring: January-May.

Sessions and seasonal vacations are conducted between them. Some of the courses continue in the summer months, during which students can improve their academic performance and retake exams. The school week lasts for five days, from Monday to Friday. Students rest on weekends and holidays, during seasonal vacations.
