When is the best time to go to China: how to choose the perfect time to travel

China is a country of endless travel opportunities. Here, every corner is unique, each season reveals it in its own way: in spring and autumn, tourists walk through ancient palaces and temples, in summer they hide in the mountains from the heat, in winter they relax on the beaches of Hainan or conquer the ski slopes. The main thing is to choose the right time so that the trip is remembered for vivid impressions, and not queues and weather surprises!

Spring and autumn: the perfect time for excursions

In spring, China comes to life: cherry blossoms, the morning air is fresh, and the temperature is the most comfortable for walking. In autumn, nature plays with golden colors, and there is no longer any heat. During these seasons it is best to go on trips to the main attractions.

Beijing is the heart of the Celestial Empire

The Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Great Wall of China, ancient hutongs and bustling markets – Beijing is full of stories that are best revealed in the off-season. In spring, the streets are buried in flowering trees, and in autumn, the city is enveloped in an atmosphere of tranquility.

In summer, Beijing is a test: heat, humidity and tourists scurrying around in search of coolness. In addition, it rains here in July-August. But in September and October it becomes comfortable again: the sky is clear, the air is clean, there are a little fewer tourists.

Shanghai: The City of the Future

Shanghai is a city of contrasts: Buddhist temples coexist with ultra-modern skyscrapers, old tea houses with luxurious boutiques. In spring and autumn, the weather here is the most comfortable, which means you can take a leisurely walk along the Bund, admire the lights of Pudong and enjoy the views from the observation decks.

In summer, Shanghai is a real steam room: the humidity is off the charts, and the asphalt seems hot. In winter, although there are no severe frosts, the wind from the river pierces to the bone.

Hong Kong is the city that never sleeps

The lights of skyscrapers, the noise of markets, laser shows over Victoria Harbour, stunning panoramic views - Hong Kong is beautiful. But when is the best time to go here?

The optimal time is October and November. The heat subsides, the rains stop, and the sky becomes crystal clear. In summer, there is a real shower here: humidity 90%, heat, showers and typhoons. In spring, the weather is more pleasant, but fogs are possible that hide the famous long-awaited views.

Summer: the time of mountains and cruises

When Chinese cities melt from the heat, it's time to head to the mountains or the Yangtze River.

Tibet is on the roof of the world

If you dreamed of seeing the Potala Palace, walking along the streets of Lhasa or getting to the mystical Yamdrok Tso Lake, summer is the ideal time: even in July and August, it is cool here, and the sun shines in the clear high-altitude sky.

Zhangjiajie National Park – Avatar World

Do you remember the soaring mountains from the movie? They exist! This is Zhangjiajie, and in summer there is a special atmosphere: after the rains, the peaks are shrouded in fog, turning the landscape into fantastic. If you want to take the most magical photos, come at this time.

Yangtze River Cruise – A Journey Through the Centuries

Summer is the best time to sail slowly along the longest river in China: the legendary "Three Gorges", ancient temples, picturesque mountains - and all this from the comfort of a cruise ship.

Winter: beaches or skiing?

Chinese winter is either snow sculptures and skis, or palm trees and the warm sea. The choice is yours!

Hainan Island - Chinese Maldives

White sand, azure water, coconut palms - all this is Hainan. From November to April, the weather here is ideal: not too hot, the water is warm, the air is fresh. January is a little cooler, but still comfortable for rest.

In summer, Hainan is a test for lovers of heat and humidity, but in August-September there are often typhoons.

Ski China – More Than It Seems

Who would have thought, but China is also great ski resorts!

  • Yabuli (Harbin) is the largest resort with 49 tracks. You can ski here from November to March.
  • Wanlun (Zhangjiakou) is for advanced skiers, the season is from October to May.
  • Genting is the site of the 2022 Olympic Games, a proven and convenient resort.
  • Nanshan is ideal for families and beginners.

In winter, Harbin hosts a grandiose festival of ice sculptures - real miracles made of ice and snow.

When exactly should you not go to China?

  • There is a time when traveling to China can be a real "survive the crowd" quest. These are "golden weeks" - holidays when the whole country goes on trips. Chinese New Year (late January - early February) - the whole country is on vacation, there are no tickets, the queues are endless. We do not recommend choosing this time for travel.
  • Labor Day (May 1) and National Day of the People's Republic of China (October 1) - for 7-10 days, China naturally turns into an anthill.

During these periods, it is better not to go - prices soar, hotels are overcrowded, and the Great Wall of China is not crowded.

Bottom line: when to go?

  • Spring and autumn are the perfect time for excursions and walks around the cities.
  • In summer, you can go to the mountains, Tibet or take a cruise on the Yangtze.
  • In winter, they go to Hainan or ski resorts.
  • In the "golden weeks" it is better to stay at home.

China is a country where every season is good in its own way. The main thing is to choose your perfect moment and go on an adventure!
