The University of Richmond (UR or U of R) is a private liberal arts college.

The decision to establish the University of Richmond was agreed in 1830 during a meeting of the Virginia Baptist General Association. At first, the institution taught courses in Latin, Greek and mathematics. One of the interesting features of the school was active physical labor - every day students worked for three hours on agricultural work. Richmond College officially opened on January 2, 1843. It had 68 students, 3 teachers, $20,000 worth of land and buildings, and a small library of 700 volumes. This institution became a university in 1920.

Sports awards at the institution began to appear in 1982, when the women's tennis team won the AIAW National Championship. Then students in the composition of football and basketball clubs began to occupy places in the top twenty in the NCAA, Football Championship Subdivision every two to three years.

Facilities and equipment at University of Richmond

The campus of the university is located in the western part of Richmond on an area of 350 acres. Most of the buildings are located within the city, sports grounds and residential buildings are in Henriko District. Many buildings of the university have been preserved in their original form - red brick buildings in the Gothic style, the library, designed in 1910. In 2000 and 2021, the campus was recognized as the most beautiful in the United States. Some territories of the university were used for filming SERIALS, films, TV shows.

The reynolds Metals Executive Office Building was donated to the university in 2001, after some time it was entered on the National Register of Historic Places. Currently, it houses the headquarters of two large-scale companies that rented the building.

In 2001, the institution purchased 115 acres of land in the eastern part of Goochland County, where biological research is now underway.

In the summertime, the campus is used by the Governor of Virginia's School of Fine Arts, Performing Arts and Humanities.

Training of students takes place in several territories, including the city center. On campuses there are auditoriums, laboratories, cafes and canteens, conference rooms.

The academic year contains two semesters: autumn and spring. Training in most areas begins in late autumn and lasts until mid-summer. A number of courses are also held in the summer.

More than 60% of students receive financial aid, so the student's solvency is not taken into account when admitting to the university. The institution has provided 25 Richmond Scholars scholarships, based on academic success and fully covering the payment of tuition, accommodation and meals.

Every undergraduate student who works full-time and has academic success is eligible for UR Summer Fellowship funding of $5,000 in summer courses or an internship at the end of their studies.

The Presidential Scholarship is a prestigious program of the university, annually providing up to 80 applicants. Funding lasts for 1/3 of the training for four years. Anyone can get a scholarship.
