Named after Virginia statesman Richard Bland, Richard Bland College was founded in 1960 by the Virginia General Assembly as a subsidiary of William and Mary College and was once under its umbrella. This selective two-year college prepares students for admission to leading universities in Virginia and the United States. The college was named after the Virginia statesman and public rights advocate Richard Bland. The son and grandson of successful planters, he represented the area that now houses the college from 1742 until his death in 1776.

The college has its own sports facilities, hostels, a bookstore:

  • Statesman Hall is a hardwood court renovated in 2014. It is designed for 822 people. There is a basketball court, six baskets, ideal for individual training and games. Apart from basketball, Stateman Hall can be converted to play volleyball and indoor soccer. Additional amenities: several dressing rooms, showers, gym, cardio room, meeting room.
  • Statebal Softball Field includes everything you need for a safe and fun experience: fences, safety fences, dugouts, bullpen, scoreboard.
  • McNeer Hall and the SSHE building offer a classroom that can accommodate 60 people for meetings and lectures. Smart boards, projection screens are available in most premises. The SSHE auditorium offers 208 wheelchair accessible seats that can be used for lectures, seminars, discussions, presentations and screenings.

Richard Bland College is home to the oldest and largest pecan grove in Virginia.
