Université INRS Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS)

Université INRS Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (abbreviated INRS) is a government-run higher education institution that first opened its doors to prospective graduates in 1969 in Canada. Currently, the main building of the University of Quebec is located in Quebec.

INRS (Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique) — a public research university founded in 1969 and part of the Université du Québec network. It focuses exclusively on graduate programs — master's and doctoral degrees, where scientific research is at the core of the learning process. The university operates through several research centers in different cities of Quebec and contributes to the economic, social, and cultural development of the province.

Studies at INRS are built around scientific research: each student works under the supervision of a research advisor and is involved in real research projects — often in collaboration with industrial and international partners. Additionally, summer schools are organized — for example, within the FONCER-TEDGIEER program on environmental technologies for water treatment and management, where students gain applied and entrepreneurial competencies.

INRS conducts teaching and research through four research centres:

• Centre Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie (Laval) — health and biotechnology,
• Centre Eau Terre Environnement (Quebec) — water, land and the environment,
• Centre Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications (Varennes, Montreal) — energy, materials and telecommunications,
• Centre Urbanisation Culture Société (Montreal, Quebec) — urban studies, culture and society.

Master's and doctoral programmes in the relevant scientific fields are offered on their basis.

INRS actively attracts research funding. The interdisciplinary PERSWADE program in the field of intelligent wireless systems — the first in Canada in its field — received more than 1.6 million dollars from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) with a total budget of 3.8 million dollars for 2013–2019. At the Urbanisation Culture Société Centre, the success rate of grant applications to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) exceeds 50%.

• INRS offers training exclusively at the master's and doctoral levels, offering no bachelor's programs,
• The Institute is part of the Université du Québec network,
• Dual degree programs are available with French universities from Rennes, Bordeaux, Clermont-Auvergne,
• About 60 students from Tunisia study at INRS.

Over the past several years, the university has consistently updated list of the best of the best in the Canadian national rankings. In addition, each year the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique wins the right to be in the top 5 of the best universities in the world.

The academic year is divided into three trimesters: fall, winter, and summer.

A registration fee is charged when submitting an application; applicants from INRS and the Université du Québec network are exempt, as are participants in open house events and representatives met at INRS recruiting events.

INRS trains highly qualified specialists capable of scientific, social, and technological innovation. Graduates are in demand in science and industry: for example, partner companies of the PERSWADE program planned to hire between 120 and 140 of its graduates in the field of wireless technologies.

Admission is available for master's and doctoral programs. A prerequisite is finding a research supervisor. The document package includes:
