University of Lethbridge (UofL)

• 1967 is known as the founding year of one of the most popular Canadian educational institutions, the University of Lethbridge (UofL).
• The central building of the University is located in Lethbridge.
• The University of Lethbridge campus is also located there.
• UofL rightfully holds high positions in the national top universities in Canada.
• It is also included in the honorary rating of 5% of the best educational institutions on the planet.

University of Lethbridge was founded on the traditional land of the Blackfoot people. Elder Bruce Wolf Child gifted the university the name Iniskim in the Blackfoot language.

In partnership with Cumming School of Medicine, the university runs the Southern Alberta Medical Program. The program's goal is to help meet staffing needs in the field of medical care by training future physicians connected to the communities where they will practice.

The Calgary campus offers evening classes, weekend study, distance, and blended formats. The EAP Academic English program develops the skills needed for study in an English-language academic environment.

A significant portion of the Southern Alberta Medical Program training takes place in Lethbridge and the rural and regional communities of southern Alberta. The program's first cohort had 20 students.

University residences are open for year-round occupancy. From September through April, approximately 1,000 students live there each year. Applications for the 2026/27 academic year were open, but demand for fall 2026 was very high. With an annual intake of approximately 2,200 students, the ratio of demand to available places was 1.7 to 1.

A residence place offer is sent only after a student officially accepts an offer of admission. The university's off-campus housing directory includes shared accommodation options, private rooms, and apartments.

In first-year student residences, cleanliness inspections are conducted every two weeks. Once per semester, all occupied living spaces, including bedrooms, are inspected.

UofL is an average university. About 9 thousand students study there. Among them are not only Canadians, but also citizens of other countries. About 1,500 teachers work for the university. Both students and teachers can participate in exchange programs and internships.

Students can use the university’s own library as well as live on campus. The University of Lethbridge is a member of many reputable organizations, including the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Each level of the intensive English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program consists of two courses completed over a single four-month semester.

Tuition and other fees are charged to the student account on the first day of classes of each semester.

The main condition for admission to the University of Lethbridge is academic performance. The academic year is traditionally divided into two semesters.

The cost of education is the same for students of undergraduate and master's programs in Canada. It is about 12,500 USD per academic year. Students with high performance can partially offset the cost of education. The university provides an opportunity to receive scholarships for the best students.

The NSERC CREATE AMETHYST program funds participants in undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral programs.
