Tulane University appeared in New Orleans in 1834. Initially it was a medical college, because at that time the population was exposed to dangerous diseases (smallpox, malaria, yellow fever) - more doctors and other medical personnel were needed to fight them.
In 1847, the college joins the newly opened State University of Louisiana. Then in 1884, a rich merchant, Paul Tulein made a donation of $ 1 million to the city, which he wanted to direct to the development of education. These funds were invested in the University of Louisiana, which became a private institution and was renamed Tulane - in honor of its investor.
Today, after more than 180 years, the American University of Tulane is recognized as one of the leading research and educational centers in the country. The university is part of an association of 62 high schools of America, and also has many other awards and titles.
