St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions was founded on October 9, 1926. The founder of the university is the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia.

Educational process

The educational process of the university is regulated by local regulations developed in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of education, and the Charter of SPbSUE.

Lessons in disciplines include:

  • lecture-type classes;
  • Seminar-type classes:

    • workshops;
    • laboratory work;

The university uses various methods of conducting classroom classes, including interactive, developing the skills of teamwork, personal communication, decision-making, leadership qualities. The main part of the classes is conducted using multimedia and computer equipment to demonstrate visual material, including audio and video aids. 

An obligatory component of educational programs is practice, which is focused on the professional and practical education of students. Practices are conducted in third-party organizations whose activities are related to the profile of the educational program.

The implementation of educational programs is accompanied by quality control: current performance control and intermediate certification + state final certification.

In the educational process, educational and scientific publications prepared by teachers of SPbSUE, published in the publishing house of the university and in the leading scientific publishing houses of the country are used.

Faculties and colleges

The structure of the university as separate structural units includes: the International Gymnasium "Olgino", 5 branches located in Almaty, Kirov, Krasnoyarsk, Samara and in the Moscow region, as well as 6 faculties:

Scientific achievements

All research activities of the university and its divisions are carried out within the framework of the comprehensive scientific program "Humanitarian Culture as a Factor in the Transformation of Russia". The most significant research works implemented in recent years are fundamental university-wide topics, which are directly supervised by the rector of the university: 

  • "World Development: Problems of Predictability and Manageability" – conceptual development, organization and holding of the International Likhachev Scientific Readings;
  • "Cultural Studies as a Science and D.S. Likhachev as a Great Russian Culturologist" – popularization of the cultural heritage of Academician D.S. Likhachev;
  • "Development and implementation of the cultural-centric concept of higher education in the educational process of SPbSUE".

On the basis of SPbSUE, more than ten scientific and scientific-practical conferences are held annually in all branches of science.

The results of research activities of professors, teachers, graduate students of the university are reflected in scientific articles and monographs.

Leading scientists of the university are united in seven scientific schools of SPbSUE.

The educational process at SPbSUE is carried out by 80 doctors and 150 candidates of science. 38 teachers have honorary titles "People's Artist of the Russian Federation", "Honored Artist of the Russian Federation", "Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation", "Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation", "Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation", etc. Over 30 teachers were awarded state awards and prizes for their contribution to the development of the national system of higher education.

University education is carried out on the basis of the innovative cultural-centric concept of education developed at SPbSUE, implemented since 1991 and received prizes from the Government of the Russian Federation (2007) and St. Petersburg (2010, 2016).

The hostel (Students' House) is located on the territory of SPbSUE. The number of residential premises in the hostel is 347 (180 blocks). For accommodation there are single, double and triple rooms. 

The SPbSUE Students' House has three unique features.

  1. First, residents enjoy unusual opportunities for a dormitory of any university in the country in the same building:
  • halls and auditoriums;
  • theatre and concert hall;

  • sports complex;

  • saunas with swimming pools and more.

Activities St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions, SPbSUE

The events of the festive calendar are systemically important for the formation of the cultural environment of the university:

SPbSUE has a wonderful tradition of supporting and encouraging creative initiatives of students. The university has numerous leisure associations - circles, studios, laboratories and workshops, which help to effectively use free time and improve professional skills in various fields.

The heads of leisure associations of the university are the best professors and teachers of specialized departments, invited specialists with a recognized name.

Facilities and equipment at St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions, SPbSUE

The educational process of SPbSUE is carried out in educational buildings located on 2 sites in St. Petersburg. The total area of the premises is 53,463.1 sq.m.: auditorium fund, cathedral premises, administrative premises, a library and a reading room, a theater and concert complex named after A.P. Petrov, a sports and recreation complex named after M.M. Bobrov, a Student House in which students and guests of the university live, a medical center, catering points and other premises. The university uses computers, stationary and portable multimedia projectors, a video conferencing system and other equipment. 

At the moment, the university is equipped with 58 classrooms, 6 lecture halls with multimedia equipment, 7 computer classes, a multifunctional information technology center "Yellow Submarine", 3 multimedia laboratories, a video room for 50 people, 2 recording studios, a photo-video pavilion with professional lighting and video equipment, a television studio for video conferencing, a corporate local network with the ability to access the Internet. 

The Granin Scientific Library has a subscription and a reading room for 320 seats, where free and unlimited Internet access via Wi-Fi is provided.

The university has a medical center, which is located on the territory of the House of Students.

Admission dates and extra charges

The educational process at the university is organized by academic years (courses) and periods allocated within the framework of courses - semesters (autumn and spring).

Additional costs include dormitory accommodation (for non-residents), meals, leisure and other expenses.

Enrolment process

To submit copies of documents to SPbSUE, it is necessary to fill out an electronic application. Documents for admission to the university are submitted in electronic form through a personal account on the university's website. Original documents are transmitted by mail or in person to the admission committee of the university.

When submitting an application, you must provide the following set of documents:

In 2021, the university graduated 79 specialists, 325 bachelors and 58 masters, of which 79% were successfully employed, 16% continue their studies. According to the employment service of the population of St. Petersburg in 2021, graduates of the university were not registered as unemployed. Sociological studies of employers' satisfaction with the quality of education of specialists show high results. 

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

  • Persons with secondary general or secondary vocational or higher education are allowed to master bachelor's and specialist's programs.
  • Persons with higher education at any level are allowed to master Master's programs.

The minimum number of USE points for contract education:

  • Foreign language – 30;
  • Informatics and ICT – 44;
  • History – 35;
  • Literature – 40;

  • Social Studies – 45;
  • Russian language – 40.

Scholarships St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions, SPbSUE

State increased scholarships for those who have achievements in educational, research, social, cultural, creative and sports activities are received by 30 students (7% of the total contingent) studying full-time at the expense of the federal budget. In addition to the state academic scholarship, personal scholarships of the Government of St. Petersburg and annual personal scholarships are awarded annually:

  • 2 Rector's scholarships;
  • 4 scholarships of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia;
  • 3 scholarships of the Murmansk Regional Council of Trade Unions.

The university has the right to reduce the cost of education under the contract for the following categories of students:

  • who excel and take an active part in the social life of the university by 25-95%;
  • students in the direction of FNPR, exercise therapy, FPRK (reserve of trade union personnel) by 20-30%;
  • applicants according to the results of the Unified State Exam by 10-50%.
