History of the modern University of Southampton began in 1862, when Hartley Institute was founded. University status was received in 1953. Today, the University of Southampton unites 7 campuses in Southampton, Winchester. The network is connected by its own bus service.

The university is widely known as a research center. The pride of the University is the Oceanographic Center. It has status of one of the best in the world. International recognition was also given to electrical and electronic engineering. Quite important are studies in the field of nutrition.

Today, more than 23,000 students study at the university, 18% are foreign students. The student community of the university is one of the strongest, active in Britain. Priority for its members is environmental and volunteer activities.

Foreign students are guaranteed to stay on campus. The university's housing stock is represented by 52,000 places in 20 residences. Students are offered 1-2-bed rooms with private facilities. Accommodation is possible with paid service (integrated hot meals) and self-service. For self-cooking in the residences there are modern kitchens.

Future students will have to go through several introductory stages:

Applicants to the Foundation programs should send an application by filling out a questionnaire on the official website of the institution and attaching the necessary documents:

• Personal documents: passport, medical insurance, visa or residence permit, etc.
• School certificate, transcript of the subjects covered. If the certificate has not yet been received, then you can provide predictable results approved by the teachers of the school.
• For admission to the Master's Foundation you need a bachelor's degree.
• Results of the English language proficiency test: IELTS (from 6.5). With a lower score, applicants will be required to attend English lessons for one to two semesters.
• Individual achievements (if any).

Applications are accepted three times a year. The best dates for admission in accordance with the start of training:

• For April – February 25,
• On July – May 13,
• For September – July 8.

Scholarship programs specifically designed for Fondation students can cover 100% of tuition fees or provide an amount to pay for accommodation. The material award is based on academic success and ranges from $ 670 to $ 3,000.
