Description of Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy, SGLA

The Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy was first founded in 1687, but existed only until 1814. In the early 1990s, there was an idea to restore the academy, but it was possible to implement this idea only by 2010. The establishment of the educational institution was supported by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Archimandrite Iliy (Nozdrin). In 2011, the educational institution received the first educational License, the first enrollment of students for higher professional education programs was carried out.

Educational process

The educational process in SGLA is carefully planned and takes into account the peculiarities of the harmonious development of students. The organization of the educational process of the university is regulated by the working curriculum, the annual calendar schedule of the educational process and the schedules of classes.

Faculties and colleges

On the basis of SGLA there are two graduating departments:

  • philosophy, theology and religious studies;
  • international relations and socio-economic sciences.

Scientific achievements

Students and teachers of the Institute annually take part in research conferences and scientific exhibitions.

The Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy is the founder of several scientific periodicals:

  • «RU SCIENCE» — international scientific printing journal;
  • "Science in SGLA" is an electronic scientific journal of the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy;
  • "Review of Russian Science" is an international scientific journal.

Things to know about

In 2014, SGLA concluded an indefinite Agreement on International Cooperation with the Open Business Administration Institute (USA).

In 2019, the Academy concluded an Agreement on International Cooperation for a period up to December 2025 with the World Theological Organization (UK).

Accommodation, meals, prices

At the disposal of SGLA is a hostel with a total area of 460 sq.m. In total, 30 places are available in the hostel for non-resident and foreign students. Each room is equipped with upholstered furniture, wardrobes and tables for classes. 

The dormitory is provided to first-year students in need of housing, including students studying for "good" and "excellent", or actively participating in the social life of the academy. For the rest of the categories, the hostel is subject to availability.

Students have access to a canteen located within walking distance from the academy.

Activities Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy, SGLA

The administration of the Academy highlights the special role of the social sphere in the lives of students. During the academic year, students not only gain knowledge, but also harmoniously develop in the social sphere, gain experience in communicating with their peers.

On the basis of the SGLA, the Student Council was created, which ensures the work of student self-government, works to identify and develop useful competencies in students. Members of the Council carry out work on the formation of academic culture. The Student Council is a representative body of the entire student body of the SGLA and helps to develop a single information space.

Facilities and equipment at Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy, SGLA

The main educational building of the Academy is located in the center of Moscow. The building is located in transport accessibility, a 15-minute walk from the metro station "Kurskaya" and the railway Kursky railway station, equipped with a ramp.

At the disposal of SGLA there are 2 libraries, a dining room, a sports hall, a medical office and a medical health center. All facilities are within walking distance and transport distance from the main educational building. Classrooms and classrooms are equipped with computers (21) with access to the Internet, hardware, software and audiovisual means. Students upon admission to the Academy are provided with access to printed, electronic educational and information resources of the university, to sports equipment and inventory.

Classrooms, toilets and other premises of the Academy are equipped with ramps, handrails and other technical means for a comfortable stay in the university building of persons with disabilities. The entrance to the academy is also equipped with a tactile mnemonic diagram in Braille.

Admission dates and extra charges

In the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy, the educational process takes place within the framework of the semester system. Each semester lasts 4-5 months, at the end of which a session is held.

In addition to tuition fees, future students should calculate monetary amounts for other items of expenditure:

  • accommodation in a dormitory, if the student is from another city,
  • transportation costs,
  • nutrition
  • leisure and so on.

In total, a student can count on expenses in the amount of 20,000 rubles per month.

To save transport costs, full-time students can apply for a social transport card, thanks to which they are provided with preferential travel on the Moscow metro and ground city public transport in Moscow. This card can be issued at the Multifunctional Center. 

Enrolment process

According to the established rules of the Academy, applicants must submit documents for admission to the university by mid-August to the admissions committee. The list of established documents includes:

  • application for admission;
  • consent to the processing of personal data;
  • identity document (passport copy: first page and registration page);
  • documents on education (copy of the certificate of secondary general education or diploma of vocational education);
  • SNILS (copy);
  • 2-4 photos in size 3×4 (if you pass internal entrance exams and at enrollment).

Acceptance of documents for the first year of the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy for training in bachelor's programs and master's programs begins on June 1 of this year.

You can submit documents in three ways: in person, by mail on paper or by e-mail.

Enrolment statistics

To date, 150 full-time places have been opened in SGLA. The largest number was allocated in the direction of study "Theology" - 60 places.

Today, 10 students study at the Academy in the direction of "International Relations" (bachelor's degree).

The number of vacancies in the magistracy is 100. Of these, the largest number of places was allocated in the direction of study "Theology" - 60 places.

Perspectives

During the training period, students undergo practical training in large organizations and government bodies. Students who have proven themselves, upon graduation, get a job where the practice took place.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Applicants must:

  • Have completed secondary general education (11 grades), secondary vocational or higher education;
  • Successfully pass entrance tests or tests (including for foreign citizens);
  • Successfully pass the Unified State Exam (USE). Grades obtained as a result of passing the Exam are counted if they were received no earlier than 4 years before the date of completion of the receipt of documents.

The minimum number of points on the unified state exam:

  • Russian language – 36 points;
  • Mathematics – 27 points;
  • History – 32 points;
  • Social Studies – 42 points.

Additionally, upon admission, it is necessary to pass a foreign language (profiling).

In some areas, the applicant also needs to pass interviews and entrance tests. Minimum number of points for intra-university exams:

  • Fundamentals of Orthodox theology and Culture – 60 points;
  • Basic theology – 60 points.

Entrance tests conducted by the Academy independently are held in written and oral form in Russian language.
