Shahid Beheshti University, founded in February 1938, is one of the state universities in Iran, located in the Evin region, northwest of Tehran, on an area of 60 hectares.

The University consists of 57 main buildings, 19 faculties, 10 research institutes, 9 research centers.

The university has 19,153 students: it accepts students, undergraduates, doctoral students for day, evening, online courses. To date, more than 43,334 students have graduated from the university.

11,500 undergraduates, doctoral students study at Shahid Beheshti University, and there are about 900 teachers for 7,500 undergraduate students. The educational institution conducts 375 bachelor's, master's, doctoral programs.

In 1991-1992, 2 dormitories were built located on the north side of the university, later a dormitory for masters was built. As the process of admission of students developed, self-governing dormitories were organized in the city. As a result of the merger of the University of Water and Energy with Shahid Beheshti University, dormitories for men/women of the Shahid Abbaspur campus have been added to this complex.

A dormitory for married students was built and donated to the university in 2003 in Velegyak district, Daneshju Boulevard, in the north of Shahid Beheshti University. This complex of dormitories with limited capacity, self-government (managed by a charitable foundation). Due to the limited number of living quarters, only doctoral students are accommodated here in shifts for 2 years.

The business incubation program accelerates the successful development of entrepreneurial companies through a set of resources, business support services developed or organized by management, offered both in the incubator and through a network of contacts. The goal of the incubator is to create successful firms that will leave financially viable and independent programs. Graduates of the incubator have the potential to create jobs, improve welfare, strengthen the business dynamics of districts, commercialize new technologies, strengthen local and national economies. With the growing willingness of universities to contribute to the economic development of society, a number of major universities in Iran have taken proactive steps to commercialize scientific and technological advances by creating an incubator of technological units.

In January 2004, Shahid Beheshti University founded SBU-TUI with high potential to receive and accommodate units in a wide range of science and technology fields in incubation/pre-incubation units.

Shahid Beheshti University is located on the territory of 3 campuses:

• Technical, engineering campus of Shahid Abbaspur (58 ha)
• Ziraba Research Campus (10 ha)
• Ecbatan University Campus (1.5 hectares).

The Center for Physical Education of the University is one of the divisions of the university. Its goal is to promote the growth and prosperity of the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual aspects of the lives of students and staff of Shahid Beheshti University. The center holds events in the field of physical education, sports, entertainment.

The Center for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) of the SBU was founded in 1974 to provide advanced conditions for students and conduct research activities. The computer center has more than 100 computers, each faculty of the campus has created its own computer centers.

The ICT Center provides various services to teachers, staff, students of Shahid Beheshti University.

Each academic year consists of two semesters. The first semester begins on September 5 and the second semester on January 23.

The duration of the bachelor's and master's degrees is 8 and 4 semesters, respectively. The duration of study under the PhD program is a minimum of 6 semesters (3 years), a maximum of 8 semesters.
