The university was founded in 1939 in the city of Pyatigorsk. PSU is one of the few universities in the country that provides specialized education in the field of foreign languages and intercultural communication, the main university in this field in the South of Russia.

The education process takes place in 4 educational buildings, equipped with classrooms for lecture and seminar classes, for course design (course work), group and individual consultations, current control and intermediate certification.
