North-Eastern Federal University named after M.K. Ammosov (NEFU) is a federal diversified higher educational organization, the largest university in the Republic of Sakha and the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. NEFU was originally organized as the Yakutsk State Pedagogical Institute. The current model of the university was created in 2010 by decree of Dmitry Medvedev.
The university is named after the Soviet figure of the state and party, who worked in Yakutia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan - Maxim Kirovich Ammosov.
NEFU is one of the ten universities focused on solving geopolitical problems, meeting the personnel needs of large interregional investment projects.
The university has 17 institutes, 5 of them are research institutes, plus 2 colleges, lyceums and 5 faculties:
