The University was established in accordance with the decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and the Central Committee of the CPSU of October 12, 1953 as the All-Union Correspondence Institute of Food Industry. - The research work on the topic "Determination of the bioproductive capabilities of water bodies of the Ulagansky district of the Altai Republic" was commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Altai Republic.
- The research work on the topic "Testing of an experimental batch of feed at aquaculture facilities" was carried out by order of BIFF BIOS FISH FEED LLC.
The scientific reserve of the university allowed to implement 2 projects in the field of school feeding:
- Conducting an audit of the organization of nutrition of students, within the framework of the reference group of general educational institutions of the city of Moscow, the development of a system of scientifically based requirements for organizational, technological and control procedures for the organization of nutrition on the basis of food rations for the intended purpose,
- Development of a regional standard for the provision of hot meals to students of state and municipal general educational institutions of the Lipetsk region based on the results of the audit of school feeding system facilities.
Within the framework of cooperation with the REC "Russian Arctic. New Materials, Technologies and Research Methods" a team of scientists from the University has implemented two major research projects:
- Development of technologies for long-term storage of products with a targeted nutrient composition from local Arctic raw materials for food enterprises in the region.
- Production of multifunctional products and individual rations from local raw materials based on a digital nutrition monitoring system for organized groups engaged in labor activities in the Arctic zone.
The University has developed and transferred to production a technology for the manufacture of nanostructured adjuvant to enhance the immunogenicity of veterinary vaccines.

In 2021, the university for the first time entered the international ranking QS World University Rankings in the region "Developing Europe and Central Asia", and also improved its position in key national rankings:
