Liverpool FC Football Academy, based at Radley College, a prestigious British boys' school, is the perfect example of combining the traditions of one of Britain's oldest educational institutions with the innovative football training methods of one of the world's leading clubs, creating a unique environment for the development of both intellectual and physical skills.
Liverpool FC, one of the most famous and award-winning football clubs in the world, has been nurturing young football players in its academy for many years. Not long ago, the club decided to expand its educational and training program by choosing Radley College as a new venue for its summer football camp. The program implemented here allows young athletes to be trained using the same methodology that is used in the "adult" Liverpool FC academy; The combination of intensive training, strategy and tactics classes with the study of English and a cultural program helps to form well-rounded football players.
Educational process
- Camp Bank
The camp has a Camp Bank system: valuables, cell phones, tablets and other devices of international children are stored in a safe, children can get them for a certain time before going to bed to contact their parents or play, after which they are returned to the educational staff.
- Medical assistance
All camp staff have completed first aid courses, and senior staff are also qualified to prescribe medication. If the child takes any medications as prescribed, information about this (information about the dosage and frequency of taking any medications) must be provided to the camp administration in advance, along with a doctor's certificate and instructions. In this case, the medications will be kept by the staff who will make sure that the child takes them at the right time and in the correct dosages.
- English Level Assessment
Foreign students undergo an assessment procedure that allows them to assess their vocabulary and key English language skills with high accuracy. It includes two stages: first, even before arriving at the camp, the children take an online test, then, already in the camp, each child is interviewed by a teacher, after which the children are divided into classes in accordance with age and level of knowledge.
The "working" language of the camp is English, so 100% of the study and training time children speak English, which allows you to create an environment of 100% language immersion and contributes to rapid progress.
Every week, teachers prepare a report on the progress made in learning English for each of their mentees and offer some tips for further improvement - both at the camp and upon returning home.
Things to know about
- Many Radley College alumni have achieved significant success in sports, playing for school, university and regional rugby and cricket teams, but football teams did not appear here until the mid-80s of the last century.
- According to the almanac of graduates of the Old Radleians, 3 players who at different times played under the colors of the Liverpool football club, as well as 9 members of the England national team, graduated from the school.
- Radley is one of four public boarding schools in England that has retained the tradition of separate education and residence: like Sherborne, Harrow and Eton, only boys study here.
Accommodation, meals, prices
During their stay on the Radley campus, students live in modern, comfortable rooms - as a rule, these are separate, single bedrooms, so each child and teenager will have their own cozy corner where they can relax after intensive training, play, do their homework. Bathrooms are shared.
Accommodation in the boarding house is organized by age groups so that foreign students live surrounded by peers, however, by prior agreement, children with an age difference of no more than two years can live in the same room or in adjacent rooms (subject to availability).
Meals are organized according to the full board model and include three balanced meals per day - breakfast, lunch and dinner. The diet is tailored to the needs of young athletes and includes a variety of dishes of national English and Pan-European cuisine, tasty and nutritious. Great importance is attached to water balance; Students are taught the importance of hydration, water is available in all trainings, and there are breaks "for water". If a child has special nutritional needs (e.g. allergies or a medically conditioned diet), parents must notify the school at least 14 days in advance (this information must be provided when making a reservation).
The well-being of athletes is looked after by dozens of professionals, divided into two divisions - the coaching staff and the well-being team, whose members are called upon to provide their students with round-the-clock support and look after them so that they comply with the regimen, eat on time, take a shower, go to bed so that they have everything they need for training. All employees undergo a multi-level selection, including a criminal record and biography check, have the necessary qualifications and extensive experience, including first aid.
