Summer English courses for schoolchildren (Vacation English Plus)

Travelling Classroom Experience

A special travel course for those teenagers who want maximum immersion and see South Africa in all its beauty!

On the way, students are accompanied by professional guides and experienced teachers - the latter are responsible for the training course: an hour is devoted to language classes every day. Students go along the famous, incredibly beautiful Garden Route, where accommodation and meals will already be organized for them. Family English Course

Cambridge Exam Preparation Courses — FCE

  • Intensity: 30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week, in the mornings and in the morning,
  • 1 lesson = 45 minutes,
  • Classes of up to 10 people,
  • Duration: 6, 8 or 10 weeks (depending on the level and the chosen exam).

A special preparation program for students who need to pass the Cambridge exams to achieve their academic, professional or career goals. This is a balanced, well-structured course with clear goals and ways to achieve them.

  1. Lessons in the morning focus on grammar and vocabulary: students read and write a lot.
  2. Afternoon classes are devoted to the development of oral speech and listening skills (listening comprehension of English): this is a constant practice, work with modern sources (for example, media and publications on the Web), acquaintance with the structure and features of the exam.

Upon completion of the program, each student receives a branded school certificate and is ready to take the exam (registration and delivery are paid separately, held on strictly defined dates; the school team can help with registration).

On average, 1-6 weeks are allotted for acquaintance with the exam rules, structure, features - and for the study of all four main language aspects: reading, speaking and writing, listening. Week 7-10 of classes is already an intensive study (more precisely) of weaknesses, expansion of vocabulary, emphasis on grammar. Students will analyze in detail all the stages of the exam, get acquainted with various types of tasks, and practice on real examples of past years.

In their work, students are helped by relevant, carefully designed and selected educational materials, experienced teachers (who have already prepared foreign students for the Cambridge exams and thoroughly know all the features) and useful extracurricular activities, activities, role-playing games.

Cambridge Exam Preparation Courses — CAE

The CAE language exam preparation program is generally similar to the preparation for FCE - with the only difference being that FCE is First Certicficate, and CAE is Advanced, that is, it implies a higher level of complexity, a greater depth of study of the material.

Cambridge Exam Preparation Courses — CPE 

  • Intensity: 30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week, in the mornings and in the morning,

  • Classes of up to 10 people,
  • Duration: 6, 8 or 10 weeks (depending on the level and the chosen exam).

CPE is the most valuable of the Cambridge certificates, confirming knowledge of the English language at the highest level (Proficiency). In general, the training program is similar to the preparation courses for FCE and CAE, but be prepared for maximum intensity, depth of study of topics. Before enrollment, it will be necessary to confirm the existing level of knowledge at the C2-C1 level.

A universal English course (General English) will help you start learning a foreign language - or effectively continue the program you started earlier. This is an active study of all the main language skills:

  • Vocabulary (vocabulary, including idioms and common expressions),
  • Oral speech (fluency, literacy),
  • Phonetics: accent correction, fluency, correct pronunciation.

Useful, up-to-date educational books and materials, experienced teachers and the active use of the communicative method will make learning comfortable and at the same time intensive.

The first 1-3 weeks start with distributive testing (reveals the existing level of knowledge) and are aimed at studying grammar, expanding vocabulary, and developing communication skills. Week 4 and subsequent deepen the knowledge gained: students delve into grammar and vocabulary, simultaneously improving their leadership qualities and self-confidence, independence, and ability to work in a team.

Both the lessons and the program can be personalized for the group or student, for their goals and objectives. Knowledge tests and mini-exams are regularly held: they show how well the curriculum is absorbed, whether it needs to be finalized or corrected, maybe it is worth considering some aspect or topic in more detail. Homework is provided.

The thematic course will simultaneously develop your knowledge of the English language, and deepen your knowledge on the topic of marketing, PR and advertising. The program is recommended for professionals of all ages and backgrounds who see their careers in the field.

Morning classes (groups of up to 12 people) are devoted to improvement in the main language aspects:

A narrowly focused course will help students master one of the most difficult areas of knowledge - law and jurisprudence. The focus of the program is in the application of the English language in legal (and even legislative) practice, in expanding the profile vocabulary. Students will practice in thematic discussions, business meetings, negotiations, effective presentations. For example, the following topics and industries are covered:

The basis of the course is the General English program, aimed at developing and improving all the main language skills and knowledge:

EAP is ideal for students who are not native English speakers but plan to study and continue to live and work in an English-speaking country. What is emphasized:

  • Academic reading and writing (on a wide variety of topics),
  • Communication skills: discussions, debates, presentations, active listening,
  • Learning strategies: how to learn more effectively and at the same time simpler and easier,

Teachers will tell you useful training techniques, give valuable academic life hacks that you can apply in further studies. Experienced teachers who have repeatedly prepared foreign students for passing the ILETS will make the program as effective and useful as possible.

An exciting, unique English course combined with an unforgettable trip to South Africa! Along the way, you will be accompanied by an experienced guide-teacher who will help you immerse yourself in the culture, traditions, nature of South Africa and at the same time improve your English skills.

Approximate travel plan:

  1. Day 1. Cape Town, Sedgefield, Hermanus. Whale route in Gordons Bay, Birkenhead brewery, farm visits and beach holidays on Mioli, scenic mountain pass R44. If possible, a rope obstacle course Treetop Obstacle Course and a zipline ride are organized.
  2. Day 2. Along the Utenikwa mountain range to the city of Oudtshoorn (KlΓ€n-Karoo region) - the world capital of ostriches! Inspection of the Cango caves (at least 1 hour of excursion), optionally – a 1.5-hour speleological adventure route. Next is the Cango Ranch, home to endangered wildlife, including crocodiles and cheetahs.
  3. Day 3. The group goes to the Elephant or Monkey Sanctuary, then to the Tsitsikamma National Park (which is only the passage over the suspension bridge at the mouth of the Storm River!). The park includes more than 80 km of coastline, fynbos, proteas, tropical heather and other jungle plants grow here, and many rare species of birds live here. Then the group goes to the Blukrasns Bridge, where those who wish can jump from the highest bungee in the world - 216 m. The day ends in Jeffreys Bay, the Mecca of surfers from all over the world.
  4.  Day 4 starts with a safari in Addo Park with an abundance of wildlife: an area of more than 145,000 hectares will give you the opportunity to meet many inhabitants! What is very valuable, the park is completely safe from malarial mosquitoes. It is home to the world's largest population of African elephants - more than 500 animals. The group will visit the main observation deck, and then go to spend the night in Sedgefield, stopping at Knighta Heads on the way, on the shores of the amazingly beautiful lagoon of the Indian Ocean.
  5. Day 5 is reserved for entertainment near Sedgefield: you can go canoeing (the rivers here are calm and quiet), walk to the local waterfall, visit the aloe factory (Albertinia). At the end of the day, the band drives back to Cape Town via the Sir Lowry's Pass and Swellendam.

Work Adventure

The program is for brave and sympathetic students aged 18-25 who want to discover the real South Africa!

Students (usually recent university graduates) will be able to gain real work experience here, staying in the English-speaking community of Africa, and at the same time strengthen their knowledge of the English language. This is a great volunteer or work experience in a wide variety of socially useful sectors, in different positions. In their free time, students will be able to appreciate the unique culture, traditions and nature of South Africa, going on a variety of excursions and walks.

Requirements for candidates:

  • Students and graduates of universities (maximum 6 months from the date of receipt of the diploma),
  • Level of English - from B1 and above,
  • Age from 18 to 25 years,
  • Valid (without extension) visa,
  • Minimum 1 week of training at LAL.

The program already includes participation in the exchange program (South African Exchange Program), assistance in writing a resume (CV), invitation letters (Confirmation and Declaration letters) for visa processing. Students look for a place to work on their own, as well as provide food, accommodation, travel and transfer expenses. LAL will provide each arrival with a welcome package containing all the basic information.

Volunteer programs  

  • Age: 18+ years,

  • It must be combined with the General English course: by the time the course starts, the student must have studied at least 2 weeks in the basic language program.

South Africa offers ample opportunities for volunteering and social work, and the LAL language school supports three options for such a program.

Social Volunteering

This is mainly work with children in the field of primary education (including kindergarten) and middle classes, assistance in local medical centers and clinics, work with homeless children, care for them and all possible assistance. Volunteers help prepare meals and organize meals, play and organize events, help teachers and educators, clean up, help children with homework, if possible, conduct music/art/sports classes, help in the administrative department.

An amazing opportunity to improve the English language and at the same time take care of nature, solving the natural problems of South Africa. It's a real experience in the wild, but it's safe, rewarding you with truly unforgettable experiences, photos, amazing landscapes – and a sense of pride in the work done.

Volunteers will work in nature reserves near Port Elizabeth. In the protected area, different habitats and animals are intricately intertwined: natural reservoirs, bush areas, rocks, subtropical jungles and natural pastures. What volunteers do most often:

  • Thinning of vegetation,
  • Tracking the lion population,
  • Wildlife observation (with a variety of tasks),
  • Planting trees, shrubs and other vegetation,
  • Work in the elephant sanctuary,
  • Work in the nursery,
  • Walking-patrolling in the "wild zones",
  • Patrolling the fence and fences,
  • Counting populations.

What is already included in the course?

  • Shuttle service to and from Port Elizabeth,

Educational process

  • All courses require their own textbook developed for the LAL network.
  • Training courses and training levels are certified by the CEFR and are developed on the basis of this system.
  • All programs imply a strong emphasis on practice for the ease of regular communication in English, include work with current and modern sources, including digital ones, online.
  • Upon completion of the program, each student receives a certificate of completion of the course, a full personal report from the teacher.

Accommodation, meals, prices

For students it is possible to stay in a host a family and in a residence. Each option has its own characteristics.

Families are provided with separate rooms with private facilities and one, two meals a day for students wishing to get acquainted with South African way of life. Home environment promotes rapid language progress and overcoming language barriers.

Those who wish to stay at the residence are offered two accommodation options:

  • The hostel on the campus of LAL Cape Town School (available 1-2-bedded rooms with bathroom, kitchen, TV and Wi -Fi);
  • Residence near the school (accommodation in a single, double room with or without conveniences is possible). In general, students have recreation areas, a swimming pool. The residence also has its own zoo.

Boarding meals in any of the hostels are available with half board or breakfast only.

Activities LAL Cape Town Summer Language School

Extracurricular program provides a variety of entertainment, cultural, sports and cognitive activities.
