Kuban State University was founded in Krasnodar in 1920. The first rector is Nikandr Aleksandrovich Marx, a prominent historian and specialist in Old Russian paleography. In the same year, the Institute of Public Education was opened in the city. After the closure of the Kuban State University, students and teachers moved to the Institute of Public Education. In February 1970, the Krasnodar State Pedagogical Institute was again transformed into the Kuban State University, and today it is a major educational and scientific complex recognized in the country and the world, awarded the Russian-Swiss Business Club a gold medal for an impeccable business reputation, which entered the top 100 best Russian universities and awarded the European Quality Gold Medal.

Kuban University offers students accommodation in dormitories: on the territory of the university there are 4 residences with a total area of 27,000 square meters. m that accommodate 2,300 people. Dormitories of KubSU are equipped with smoke control system, outdoor surveillance cameras.
