Kirkwood Community College is a public college in Iowa. The history of the institution began in 1966, when several campuses of Area Ten College were opened. In the first year, 199 applicants were admitted to it. In 1969, the college received its current name in honor of S. J. Kirkwood, one of the first abolitionists, governor of Iowa during the American Civil War.

In recent years, about 16,000 first-year students have been admitted to the university annually. The institution provides 47 courses for schoolchildren of the state, more than 120 programs in various fields for its students: from business modules to dog training courses. Most teachers have master's and doctoral degrees. Training takes place on the basis of academic departments in the following areas:
