How Malaysian Universities Are Fast Becoming the Best in All of Asia

Malaysia is the perfect destination for international students! Now we will prove: there is cheap and excellent education, and the flavor of the country inspires everyone.

All about higher education in Malaysia

Due to the fact that the country was a British colony for a long time, the education system here is the same as in the UK. Moreover, many universities conduct lectures in English.

There are three levels of higher education: bachelor's degree (study for 3-4 years), master's degree (1.5-3 years) and doctoral studies. To get a doctoral degree, you need to graduate from a master's or bachelor's degree with honors. The above years of study do not apply to the training of doctors, they study a little longer.

There are many universities in Malaysia where you can get different specialties. Foreign students are usually attracted by branches of large international universities in New Zealand, Canada, and the UK: geographically, you will study in Malaysia, but in the end you will receive a certificate that is not much different from what is awarded to students of the main branches. And it is easier to study, and it costs much less!

In addition, there are programs in the universities, which involves obtaining double diplomas. For example, ETU "LETI" and Universiti Malaya offer master's students a year to study in St. Petersburg, and then a year in Malaysia. Education is conducted in English. This gives students a chance to prove themselves at a foreign university and get a job abroad.

How can a foreign student enter the university?

Malaysians enter a bachelor's degree after 12 years of schooling, so for those who have completed only 11 grades, you need to "finish" one year. How can this be done?

  1. Complete your studies at a Malaysian or other English-speaking school;
  2. Study for a year at a university and arrange a transfer;
  3. Take the Foundation course.

Each university has preparatory courses for admission to a university: they usually last a year and cost 410 thousand rubles.

For admission to bachelor's, master's and postgraduate programs, you may need a different package of documents, but mainly these are:

  • certificate of education,
  • application for admission,
  • a copy of the passport,
  • IELTS/TOEFL exam results.

Foreign students need to pay a consular fee of about 4600 rubles. Documents are considered for two weeks.

After you are enrolled, if you do not have a scholarship and grants, you need to pay for your university studies for a year. Prices vary depending on whether it is a public university or a private one, which specialty you have chosen: for 2023-2024, these are amounts from 272 thousand to 1.5 million rubles per year. In a master's program, the average price per year is half a million rubles, and you can get a doctoral degree for 184-740 thousand rubles.

If you think it's expensive, we want to tell you – it's worth it! The level of education in Malaysia is high, so finding a job with good earnings that will pay for your education is easy. The country's economy is stable, the climate is always warm, and the number of working days is only 4 per week. Isn't that a dream? With an average salary in Malaysia, you can live a comfortable lifestyle: prices here are much lower than in many European countries. Plus, English-language education will give you the opportunity to freely communicate with any resident of the country - and not only.
