Portfolio Preparation Course

  • The term of study is one year.

This full-time QQI Level 5 course helps prepare a portfolio of visual arts and its practice, visual communication design, animation, fashion, interior design, screen and stage design, model making, and digital effects. The Portfolio Preparation course is designed to help students prepare for rigorous university studies in art, design and other programmes both in Ireland and abroad.

The main subjects covered in this course will be drawing, painting, printing, combined materials, and sculpture. Teaching methodologies include seminars, tutorials, lectures on cultural studies and group discussions.

Advanced Portfolio Preparation Courses

  • The term of study is one year.

Advanced portfolio training courses offer students two areas:

  • Art design,
  • Film and photography.

Each of the specializations contains a large number of hours of practice in specialized disciplines, group seminars and participation in exhibitions. In one year of full-time study, students will gain competitive skills and a portfolio that can open many doors in the world of contemporary art.

BTEI Distance Courses, BTEI Distance Courses

  • The term of study is one year.

One-year distance learning programs offer qualifications in the following specialties:

  • The Art of Printing: An Appreciation of Art,
  • Photography: digital and analog photography,
  • Drawing and painting,
  • Graphic Design: Design Skills.

Each of the courses is taught in a distance format - classes are held once or twice a week, classes are shorter than in full-time form. At the same time, in one year of study, students will gain knowledge and skills that can make the student competitive and noticeable among artists.

The graduation certificate provides an opportunity to continue the academic path in full-time portfolio preparation courses.

Gorey School of Art is a small art school offering specialized programs for those wishing to obtain a degree in fine arts, photography, and design. Education is possible both in person and online.

The Gorey School of Art has a long tradition dating back to 1968, when the Gorey Arts Centre was opened, becoming the first centre of this profile in the country outside of Dublin.

The School of Arts is recognized by key arts institutions and organizations as a center of excellence. The teaching staff includes practicing artists and highly qualified specialists who participate to this day in international and national exhibitions, projects and conferences.

The main feature of all programs is the importance of project work - a large amount of time is devoted to the implementation of ideas both in groups and independently.

Facilities and equipment at Gorey School of Art

The campus of Gorey School of Art is located in the countryside, the small town of Gorey, Ireland. Despite the surrounding natural beauty and, it would seem, remoteness from civilization, the school has easy access to attractions, public places, restaurants in Dublin.

The study area opened in 2014. There are many rooms for exhibitions and seminars, projects of photographers, filmmakers, programmers and designers.

Admission dates and extra charges

The academic year for most courses lasts from mid-September to June. Face-to-face courses offer students classes from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and part-time programs offer classes from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a couple of days a week.

An approximate list of additional expenses includes accommodation and meals off-campus, leisure and public transport fees, school registration fees.

Enrolment process

Candidates wishing to enroll in the Gorey School of Art must fill out an online application and provide documents, pay the registration fee.

Applications are processed within a week, but it may take a little longer during the summer months. After reviewing the application by the admissions committee, prospective students will receive a confirmation email and an invitation to campus.

An important step in the admission process is the presentation of the portfolio and the interview. Applicants bring visual diaries, drawings, studies about cultural figures, collages and other art objects that will show the level of skills, a variety of ideas and interest in learning.

Perspectives

Graduates easily succeed in their chosen field. For example, students who graduate from the design program enter the subsequent stages of the academic path in prestigious institutions in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Great Britain and Germany.  Since 2012, 100% of graduating students have successfully enrolled in the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and the Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Dan Liger (IADT). In 2015, 28 portfolios were submitted to IADT, 22 of which scored 600/600 points.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Applications from new students are accepted from November to September. Each course has certain academic requirements for candidates, but basically admission is based on entrance tests.

Basic requirements:

  • Entrance age - from 16-17 years,
  • Certificate of complete secondary education.

Applicants over the age of 23 do not have to provide a certificate, since their admission depends entirely on the portfolio of work.

For most courses, students will need a basic set of materials, including charcoal, a set of B pencils, masking tape, and others. To study film and photography, the student will need an SD card with a capacity of at least 64 GB.
