In France, the construction of roads, bridges and canals has long remained the exclusive competence of lords, associations of merchants or monastic orders. In the time of Colbert (a politician of the times of Louis XIV), more effective policies began to be pursued, and on February 14, 1747, a decree was issued establishing a special school for road engineers. Until 1794, the director of the school was Jean-Rodolphe Perrone, an engineer, a talented administrator, a scientist who participated in the development of the Encyclopedia of D'Alembert and Diderot.

Today, the ENPC Graduate School - Marne-la-Vallee relies on 12 research laboratories, offering master's and doctoral programs in mechanics, civil engineering, materials science, nuclear engineering, mathematics, computer science, environmental science, urban planning, transport, economics, sociology ... In addition to civil engineering and regional planning, the School conducts training and research related to the challenges of the transition to sustainable energy.

Thanks to agreements between the École des Ponts ParisTech and the partner residences, 350 to 400 students receive accommodation annually, 50% of them are foreign. All students of the 1st and 2nd courses who wish are accommodated on campus in one of the school's partner student hostels. In the third year of engineering studies, accommodation is offered at the Maison des Mines et des Ponts on campus. You can also choose the accommodation option yourself: in the residences of CROUS (Regional Center for University and Social Work, a government body that, in particular, manages student hostels), in private student hostels.

Residences near campus

Residences Perronet and Campuséa are a 5-minute walk away. Through agreements with CROUS, the school has reserved rooms for its students at the Montesquieu residence, located directly opposite the school. Also 2 minutes from the school is the international residence Cité Descartes, which accepts doctoral students and researchers.

Accommodation in the center of Paris

Many students choose to stay in the center of Paris. The school is 20 minutes from the center (Chatelet-Les Halles) on the regional express A. The school offers accommodation in Maison des Mines et des Ponts et Chaussées, in the Latin Quarter.

The institution hosts holiday barbecues, parties, events open to the public. Each year, the school's Gala brings together students, alumni, families and friends.

Student life is also the cultural life of Paris, just 20 minutes away by public transport on the RER line A.

ENPC - Marne-la-Vallee has floodlit tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts, two synthetic city football fields, a gym and a dance hall. Nearby there is a synthetic turf stadium for football, rugby, a rugby stadium with a turf and a gym (available classes: dance, gymnastic, team sports, badminton hall).

Other sports are available nearby or within a quarter of an hour by car (the sports office has three minibuses for student travel): swimming, rowing, golf, tennis, rock climbing, and more. The school's athletic teams participate in friendly matches with campus schools and tournaments organized by the BDS, jogging in nearby woods or Château de Champs gardens.
