The Danish Ministry of Immigration has announced new measures that should limit the abuse of the international student system. The list of measures includes, for example, reducing the period of job search after graduation and restricting the right to bring your family to the country.
Such changes were introduced so that student visas were not used as a way to migrate to the country. The leadership of the migration service emphasizes that the main goal of foreigners with such a visa when moving to Denmark should be education, not work. According to a statement from the ministry, the number of foreign students has increased significantly, which has aroused suspicion among the authorities, so they decided to abolish the right to bring family members of students from abroad if they are not EU citizens.
They want to reduce the duration of the job search period from three years to a year. In addition, students from outside the EU will be required to pay most of the cost of their education in advance, and universities will have the opportunity to increase control over the academic achievements and language proficiency of future master's students.
Most of the "student offenders", according to statistics, come to Denmark from Nepal and Bangladesh.
The new rules are planned to be launched in 2026, although the exact timing has not yet been determined.
