Chelyabinsk State Institute of Culture, ChGIK

ChGIK was founded in 1967, the grand opening of the Institute took place on October 1, 1968. ChGIK educates specialists in the field of humanities and future cultural figures.

The implementation of the educational program at ChGIK provides for the following formats: lectures, practical and seminar classes, extracurricular activities.

ChGIK has 6 faculties:

• Conservatory,
• Choreographic
• Cultural
• Theatre, film and television,
• Arts and crafts,
• Documentary communications and tourism.

ChGIK pays special attention to science. The Institute has a student scientific society (SSS), which annually holds the All-Russian Conference of Students and Undergraduates "Cultural Initiatives" with the publication of a collection of articles. In addition, members of the SSS participate in the organization of competitions of student research papers. 

The Council of Young Scientists of ChGIK works.

ChGIK publishes the newspaper "Akademgorodok", which publishes the latest news of the Institute and useful information for applicants.

Famous alumni of ChGIK:

• Anna Peskova (Russian film actress, dubbing, TV presenter and film producer),
• Artem Goncharov (creative producer of the Comedy club, screenwriter of the TV series "SashaTanya", "Girls with Makarov", etc.),
• Inga Oboldina (Honored Artist of the Russian Federation).

ChGIK has 2 dormitories, the total number of beds is 1000. Places in the dormitory are provided to nonresident and foreign students, as well as students from remote areas of the city and region. Nine-storey dormitory buildings are located in the center of Chelyabinsk, comfortable living conditions have been created here. Beds are provided. The rooms are designed for 2-4 people.  The blocks are equipped with shower rooms and bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms, rest rooms and classes for studying on their own.

There is a pass system. Near the dormitories there are grocery stores and pharmacies.

Student life at ChGIK is filled with cultural events - including during leisure time, students relax and develop skills. Teachers and students of ChGIK regularly take an active part in city festivals and events.

Creative teams of ChGIK:

• Literary studio "Runway",
• Contemporary Dance Ensemble,
• Vocal ensemble "Subton" and others.

More than 20 creative teams have been created at ChGIK.

ChGIK has 3 educational and administrative buildings, the Debut Educational Theater for 550 seats and the Smirnov Concert Hall for 270 seats.

ChGIK is equipped with premises for practical purposes: 

• orchestral, choreographic, choral and theatrical classes, 
• computer and video classes, 
• recording, music, directing rooms, 
• folklore and language laboratories.

At ChGIK, the academic year begins in the first half of September and is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. Classes are held according to the schedule of a six-day working week. The beginning of classes is in accordance with the schedule of study groups.

At the end of each semester, an examination session is held. Students are provided with vacation weekends: winter (January) and summer (July-August).

Acceptance of documents for full-time education at ChGIK begins on June 20 of the current year and goes:

• until July 25 (according to the results of the exam),
• until July 15 (according to the results of entrance examinations conducted by the University independently).

The deadlines for entrance examinations are from July 15 to July 25.

List of documents for admission to ChGIK:

• Confirmation of individual achievements, the results of which are taken into account when admitting.

Today, more than 2000 people study at ChGIK. About 250-280 state-funded places are allocated annually.

During the entire period of study, students take an active part in the organization of cultural events of the city, practice in schools, palaces of culture and theaters. Every year, more than 80% of graduates get a job in their specialty after graduating from ChGIK.

The main requirements of the City Electoral Commission for applicants:

• Level of education (secondary general or secondary vocational),
• High results of the exam or entrance examinations,
• Successful completion of the creative and professional test.

Minimum passing scores based on the results of the exam:

• Russian language — 40,
• Mathematics — 39,
• Physics — 36,
• History — 35,
• Social Studies — 45,
• References: — 40.

The minimum passing score for entrance examinations is 50.
