Kindergarten

With its own dedicated space located on the grounds of King Edward's School (Bath), the kindergarten offers an intimate indoor and outdoor environment that has been designed to encourage exploration, creativity, and independence. Three bright and airy interior spaces allow for free movement and access to a dedicated outdoor space with various exploration areas, including a sandbox, stage and changing corner, garden beds for growing plants and vegetables, a climbing area and a "clay kitchen".

Preparatory School

Each child is encouraged and supported in the development of literacy through a progressive approach that includes a solid foundation in storytelling.

A strong focus is placed on the development of mathematics, taking a practical approach using games – this is a vital step in learning and understanding for problem-solving, reasoning and arithmetic. Math skills are developed both indoors and outdoors and are incorporated into other sections of the curriculum.

Particular attention is paid to the physical health of children: two physical education lessons are held weekly, children regularly attend the Forest School and go swimming.

Grades 1 & 2

King Edward's School (Bath's) in-house curriculum for Grades 1 and 2 is rooted in the national curriculum but has been refined to best meet the needs of today's children and the environment in which they find themselves. The resulting system provides a rich and engaging experience for children, gradually introducing more formal academic pursuits.

Junior School

King Edward's School has a drama and music department. The Drama Department puts on school plays every year, such as Fiddler on the Roof and Pride and Prejudice. King Edward's Senior and Junior Schools are located on a 19-acre campus overlooking Bath. The school consists of several buildings:

  • The Main Block (Q) is the main building used for the study of English, Mathematics, Music, Physics, and Chemistry. The scientific laboratories in Block Q have recently been renovated. The main building also houses the Broughton Theatre and music classes. 
  • Built in the 19th century, Nethersole House now houses the Faculty of Religious and Philosophical Studies, History, Business, Economics and Learning Support, the Principal's Office and the Reception Room.
  • The Holbeche Centre is home to the Sixth Form Centre and classes in art, design, technology and photography.
  • Nearby are Block G and the newly built Block L. The sports hall is used for meetings and education, matches, games.
  • In September 2008, the high school opened a new building (Block B) that houses many major faculties, including biology, psychology, and computer science.
  • The Wessex Building is located north of Nethersole House and was opened in 2015 by the Earl of Wessex. It houses the Porter Library, Willett's Dining Room, and a conference room. 
  • The school opened an all-weather sports field in November 2016.
  • On campus is The Rose, a new theater center with state-of-the-art technology and equipment. 
  • In 2020, the school's newest educational institution, Block L, was opened, which is a language block dedicated exclusively to language purposes, which is located between Block G and the Holbeche Centre.
  • A temporary building called the M block is currently being used to teach math classes.

The junior school has its own adventure playground, which is equipped with an obstacle course, a pond, a wildflower garden, garden beds and greenhouses. In addition, there is a playground for several sports.

The academic year at King Edward's School runs from September to June. The year is divided into 3 trimesters, between which vacations are organized:

Enrolment process

When applying to King Edward's School, the following steps must be taken:

  • Sign up. Fill out the online registration form for the selected study program and pay a non-refundable application fee.
  • Evaluation. The child will be invited to the school for a trial day: during this time, the teachers will assess the child's abilities and their compliance with the school requirements. In addition, a request will be made to the current school for a reference report (does not apply to those entering kindergarten or preparatory school).
  • Offer of a seat. Parents have two weeks to accept the offer of a place.
  • Preparation of documents for admission. A full package of documents for admission is sent to parents within a semester before the child enters school. Additionally, parents will have to pay a deposit for the offered place.

Applicants for admission to junior and high schools, the Sixth form, will need to pass entrance exams - this is a control test in mathematics and English. In addition to these tests, the child will be required to pass a logical thinking test based on drawings/diagrams. About 50 minutes are allotted for each work.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Students wishing to enrol at King Edward's School will be required to pass entrance exams. Most pupils enter the school at the beginning of the 7th or 12th grade, however, if the number of places allows, KES also accepts pupils in grades 8, 9 and 10.

Students taking the entrance exams will take papers that test oral reasoning, mathematics and English. Samples of theses in mathematics are sent to all registered applicants before the day of assessment.

Students wishing to enter the Sixth form must achieve a minimum entry goal consisting of a Grade 4 GCSE, or Grade 4 IGCSE, or C and above in English and Mathematics (preferably 6th grade or B or above).

Scholarships King Edward's Private School, Bath

Currently, King Edward's School provides scholarship payments for students in grades 7 and 12. Students whose parents cannot afford to pay for school tuition in full can count on scholarships. Once a scholarship has been awarded, unless the parents' financial circumstances change, the scholarships are usually maintained for the duration of the student's stay at school.
