LAL Berkhamsted Summer School

LAL Berkhamsted Summer School is a popular language school near London. It offers high-quality academic preparation, a diverse entertainment program. Students at LAL Berkhamsted are given the opportunity not only to improve English abroad during summer holidays, but also to find many new friends. Multicultural international environment of the school promotes the development of communication skills. At the same time, up to 180 students can study at the school. Annualy, representatives of more than 50 nationalities come for summer holidays in Britan.

Students study in a comfortable environment. Extracurricular activities complement lessons, giving international students opportunities to practice their language skills and review what they have learned through informal conversations with one another.

The original Torbay Language Centre opened in Torbay, UK. The network later expanded to Fort Lauderdale in the USA, Cape Town in South Africa, London, Taunton, Winchester, Twickenham, Brighton, New York, Boca Raton, and Berkhamsted. Its partnerships include IELS Malta, Apollo Language Centre in Ireland, and other institutions worldwide.

Teachers use technology and everyday situations to help students practice English inside and outside the classroom. Alongside planned lessons and progress checks, students can tell teachers which language topics they want to focus on. Progress is monitored through daily teacher feedback, weekly written or listening tests, and written and spoken end-of-level exams.

Most LAL teachers have CELTA qualifications and extensive teaching experience. At the end of a course, students receive an LAL certificate of attendance confirming their CEFR level, course type, and duration.

At the school, foreign students are offered accommodation in a residence and in a host family.

The language school has two residential buildings, which are equipped with 1 - 3-bed rooms. Bathrooms and toilets are in general access (1 block for 7 people). For recreation in student hostels are provided special zones with soft furniture, TV, DVD, equipped with places for table games.

Living in host families students can immerse in the British environment. Students can get closer to their traditions, life, culture. In families, students are provided with comfortable accommodation conditions. Most often these are single rooms with the necessary furniture for a proper rest and effective self-preparation. Internet access is available at an additional cost.

Students receive board meals at residences and host families. Lunch is served in the school dining room. Breakfast and dinner students have at the place of residence. The menu is dominated by European cuisine.

The school's experienced staff organize leisure activities for teenagers. Each language program includes two compulsory excursions in the price, with unlimited additional excursions available. Destinations include:

• London on a day trip, including Buckingham Palace, Parliament, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, and the National Gallery,
• Oxford, one of the world's major university centers,
• St. Albans in southern Hertfordshire, a historic city with distinctive architecture built on the site of the ancient Celtic settlement of Verlamion,
• Stratford-upon-Avon, a historic city with Shakespearean attractions,
• British natural history, science, history, and art museums, with archaeological and cultural objects, antiques, film technology, and engineering exhibits.

Each LAL school holds a Free Welcome Event where new students get to know their destination, school, and classmates. Teachers and staff join selected free and low-cost activities, giving students opportunities to get to know one another and practice English in everyday situations. Real Life English Excursions offer specially selected local experiences.

Lessons take place before lunch from Monday through Friday. Afternoons include walks around town, excursions, and entertainment. Evening events include movie screenings, discos, sports competitions, talent shows, auctions, and other activities.

• The school is conveniently located, about half an hour's drive from London and no more than 40 minutes from Heathrow Airport. Berkhamsted has historic sights and is home to one of the world's major film archives, holding materials from the library of the National British Film Institute,
• Students receive individual attention, and groups are formed according to their language level,
• Classes have a maximum of 15 students, allowing time for communication and individual work with each learner,
• The school provides comfortable conditions for international students,
• At least once a month, teachers lead English on the Go lessons outside the classroom so students can practice English in everyday situations around town,
• Language levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). All students take a placement test on their first day, and those who do not progress as expected receive additional support at no extra cost,
• A package combining two LAL locations is available with reduced administrative fees.
