Why is it cheaper to fly with a transfer?

Why is it cheaper to fly with a transfer?

Flights with intermediate stops allow us not only to save money, but also to take a break at the airport, take a lunch break or conduct a brief sightseeing tour of an unfamiliar city with its own history, culture, architecture, character.

We have been asked many times the question: what is the reason for the fact that flights with transfers are often cheaper compared to direct ones? We decided to answer for everyone to save precious time, as well as share with you some rules regarding such trips.

It's all about occupancy

Most often, direct flights without transfers are more expensive for passengers, although there are rare exceptions. Here it is important to understand that flights with a single transfer can be profitable, the extreme case is with two. In all others, the price of such routes is growing exponentially, everything will cost much higher than a direct flight of even higher class.

But single-transfer ones maintain a democratic pricing policy. This is due to the fact that in this way the chance of flying with a half-empty cabin is minimized. Flights from the Moscow in the best years to the Dutch Amsterdam flew with a transfer in the Latvian capital. Thus, a passenger who boarded a flight in Moscow buys tickets to Latvia and only there takes the following tickets to blessed Holland.

So the occupancy rate is growing, and carriers invariably win at such joints.

Do not forget about the details

And now some useful tips.

  • If money, time and communication allow you, buy tickets from the same airline or at least one alliance. In this case, there will be no need for you to mess with luggage between the boards, since the operator will be forced to transport it independently up to the point of arrival;
  • Take into account the time intervals between flights. Sometimes the wait is required in two to three hours, in some cases it can exceed a day. In the case of a long-term transfer, it is better to find out in advance the mode and schedule of the transit zone. Most likely, to stay there you will not need a visa of the country-"crossroads", but in order to go out into the city, it will be a prerequisite.
  • Control your time counter between flights. If it is not enough - less than fifty minutes - it is better to warn the conductor in advance that you need to leave the plane among the first, otherwise you risk not being able to keep up with the transfer.
  • Also, you should not leave the airport, even if there is such an opportunity, if the time "gap" is less than five hours between flights. Otherwise, you risk simply not having time to go through all the necessary procedures.
