The University of Tennessee (Knoxville UTK) is the highest public education institution in America. The urban-type campus located within Knoxville is buzzing with energy, ideas and optimism. It is a major research center that controls, in partnership with the Buttel Memorial Institute, one of the largest US state laboratories, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The scientific programs of ORNL focus on energy, systems biology, materials, neutron science and national security. The laboratory is one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world.
